The Unit value is used to provide Dietplan6 with detailed recipe information. Nutritional information can then be extracted from Dietplan application once data has been imported. This can be used by nutritionists to determine if a meal provides all dietary requirements. The data that is provided by Dietplan6 will only be as accurate as the information that is entered into the Backoffice. With this in mind it is critical that a user understands the technique of adding and manipulating units for products and recipes, and to appreciate the various procedures that can be employed to do this. Overview Menumark provides three types of unit for all products Simple Each Pack Volumes Litre cl (centiliters) ml (milliliter) Gallon Pint gill floz (fluid ounces) Weights kg gm mg lb oz (pound) (ounce) (kilogram) (gram) (milligram) Note – Both Imperial and metric measurements are provided. An operator can choose their and utilise their preference. Page 4 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS Examining ‘the correct unit of measure’. Example - Coke a Cola A user is asked to consider the best unit to be defined for a particular product. The examples below are created using the ‘Edit product’ method. All the elements for the product will be, for the sake of this exercise, assumed to have been inputted and correct. Using the following Item Item A can of Coke Unit ml Size 330 Simple The Can of Coke example can be considered as a ‘Simple’ unit. This allows the user to be able to specify single units (Each) and multiples (Pack) Load a Unit Template Step 1 Instruction Example Select and Edit the product. Select the Unit Tab Select the Load Unit Template button 2 Select the appropriate unit of measurement. In this case Simple 3 The Each and Unit default values are added to the product. 4 The each value can remain as an each or single. The pack value can be amended to a size of 24 5 Description can also be edited to describe the product Page 5 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS 6 Double Click the Unit (or Edit Unit) Enter the values and ensure that the comparison calculator reads correctly. A user can play with the numbers until the comparison calculator reads correctly. 7 The results are now shown in the unit screen. Our example requires the following calculation 24 cans of Coke on a tray. Each Can of Coke is defined as an individual Therefore 24x1=a tray of coke. Volume Load a Unit Template Step 1 Instruction Example Units are defined. Select the Load Unit Template button 2 Select the appropriate unit of measurement. In this case Volumes 3 The following volume measurements are added by default. We should consider the volume that we require. A can of Coke is 330 ml All other measurements can be disabled (remove the tick) or delete as appropriate. 4 The ml value can now be set. 1 can of coke = 330 ml Therefore the size should reflect this. A description can be added using free text. Double click the item and amend the size. Click OK to commit. Page 6 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS This will be designated as the individual item, the selling item or the smallest amount to be used in a recipe. 5 The Order unit needs to be defined. Click on ‘Add Unit’ 6 Again enter a description. In this instance Coke is delivered on trays with 24 cans. So the description could be ‘24x330ml Tray’ 7 Define the Size of the Tray The measurement is in ml. We need to know how many ml will be delivered per tray. 24x330=7920 Enter this value into the Size 7a Note the Comparison calculator. This is used to verify the amounts are correct. Our example states… 1 Tray = 24 cans of coke, and visa versa The Units for the can of coke have now been defined using millilitres as our unit of measure. 1 can of coke = 330ml 1 tray of coke = 7920ml (aka 24 x 330ml) Adding Measurements Manually We are going to recreate the units from the step above but use a different method to complete this. Again all elements for the product shall be assumed to have been entered and be correct. Step Instruction Example 1 The units need to be defined. Select Add unit form the bottom of the screen or. Right click on an empty section of the screen Select Add Unit Page 7 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS 2 Enter the description of a single product Enter the Size of the product Click on OK 3 Repeat step one and enter the tray amount Enter a description Enter the Size Check the Comparison Calculator to make sure the calculation is correct 4 Enter the values and ensure that the comparison calculator reads correctly. A user can play with the numbers until the comparison calculator reads correctly. 5 The results are now shown in the unit screen. The Units for the can of coke have now been defined using millilitres as our unit of measure. 1 can of coke = 330ml 1 tray of coke = 7920ml (aka 24 x 330ml) Weights Adding weighted items allows the loading of both metric (kg and mg) and Imperial (lbs and oz). This section will concentrate on the metric method. For our example we will use Flour Item Sack of Flour Unit Kg Size 25 This will be the delivery method. All other, smaller, sizes will be configured from the delivery value. Step Instruction Example 1 Select the Load Unit Template button 2 Select the appropriate unit of measurement. In this case Weights Page 8 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS 3 The default units for weights will be loaded. Decide which weight method is to be used. In this case metric. 4 Either delete or un-tick the active box of the weights to be discarded. 5 NOTE - The default values do not include the bulk / delivery item. This needs to be created. The units need to be defined. 6 Select Add unit form the bottom of the screen or. Right click on an empty section of the screen Select Add Unit 7 Add a description for the item. Sack Flour 25kg Add the size – 25kg NOTE – the comparison Calculator will show some incorrect data at this point. 8 Any of the elements concerning our product can be edited to achieve the correct values. In this case we know that 1 sack of flour is the same as 25 kg of flour. If these values are amended in the Comparison Calculator the size of our product will be amended. The configuration of this weighted item provides the ability to order a sack, or sacks, of flour as well as using as little as 1mg in a recipe. Although 1gm may be more appropriate. Page 9 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS Setting a Base Unit There is a function within the Unit tab that allows a base unit to be defined and set. The defined unit will be applied to all the active units within the tab. Once all the units have been created and configured a base unit can be defined for the product. Step 1 Instruction Example In the unit tab… Select the unit that will become the base unit. (Highlighted) 2 Select the calculator style icon for the bottom of the screen. The Base unit will become the value 1. All the unit sizes will become amended to reflect the base unit. Our example shows 1gm as the base unit. All other units are now devisable by this value. Review Adding weights and measures Step 1 Instruction Example There are three types of weights and measures. 2 Units can be added using the Load Unit Template 3 Units can be added using the Add Unit button 3a Units can be added using the Right Click of a mouse button and selecting Add Unit. Simple Volumes Weights Page 10 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS Amending weights and measures Step 1 Instruction Example It is important to consider how the item is to be set up. What should the unit be Weight, each or fluid amount. How is the item ordered? Sack weighing 25KG / Trays of Coke / drum of Oil 2 How is the item used / sold? What should the Unit description be? Grams in a recipe / individual cans / floz in a recipe Sack 25kg / Drum 12li / Indiv Pk Crisps 3 How do the units interact with each other? Does the comparison calculator make sense? Page 11 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS Creating a Recipe Once all products have been created and unit’s configured they can be added to recipes. A user again has to consider some factors before they continue. What products are required for the recipe? How many portions will the ingredients make? For example. A crumble topping is made from Flour, Butter and Sugar. These are designated as the ingredients. Ingredients are added to a recipe in the quantity that will create a predetermined quantity. NOTE – This process is a manual task. Products will have to be measured to find the allotted quantity for the portions defined. With this in mind the following instruction can be followed to create a recipe item. All the elements for the recipe will be, for the sake of this exercise, assumed to have been inputted and correct, including a portion unit size. Step Instruction Example 1 When creating a recipe item ensure that the recipe tick box is checked in the general tab 2 Click the Ingredients tab 1. Main screen Host 2. Add Ingredients 3. Look Up Ingredients 4. Delete Ingredients 5. Amount the portions make. Page 12 of 14 UNITS AND COEFFICENTS 3 To add a product / ingredient select the Add Ingredient button This will show the Product look up screen. The filter can be used to search for an ingredient. Select the ingredient by double clicking it. 4 The product will be added to the recipe. A default ingredient unit will be added. This can be amended. The ingredient unit can be changed by using the drop down. 5 6 7 The Quantity of the item needs to be added. In this case 5 KG has been selected. Using the same method add the Butter and Sugar using the correct ingredient unit and with the correct quantities The portion size is now required to be set. The statement ‘These Ingredients make’ needs to be completed. Once the portions have been worked out the costing will be auto configured NOTE – Sometimes there is a requirement to save and exit the recipe and renter the screen to see the amendment. Troubleshooting Step Instruction Example 1 If Total cost and Unit cost is not populated or updating. 2 If the individual portion unit is not populated. Add a large quantity to an ingredient. This will make the total cost and unit price hugely incorrect but will prompt the values to be added into the total and unit cost. Once the data is seen correct the quantities which will correct the Total and unit cost price. No Weight/Volume Unit has been selected in the Unit tab. 3 Unit Tab. If there is no data under the Weight/Volume Unit drop down. Exit the recipe. Re-enter the recipe. Select the Unit tab. The Weight/Volume Unit is now selectable.
