Shark Bytes - Stocker Elementary

STOCKER ELEMENTARY!
January 2010!
ISSUE NO. 1
SHARK BYTES
Welcome!
Welcome to the first edition of Shark Bytes. We will be sharing with you, hopefully on a
monthly basis, some of the great stories Stocker students create. This first edition is
spanning several months of effort by Stocker students. When we become amazing
publishers we should have many pages of intriguing paragraphs, stories, poems, and even
illustrations for you to enjoy. For now we invite you to relax and enjoy some wonderful
writing. Parents, please remember to encourage your children to write from their hearts,
write from their funny bones, write from their tears. If they can tell you the story, they can
write it down with perhaps a little help from you.
Happy reading,
Mrs. Walls

A Thanksgiving Story
by Delaina
I knew something was wrong as soon as I woke up. I just didn’t feel right. Then, I looked in the mirror.
WHAT? FEATHERS! It was true. I had turned into a turkey two days before Thanksgiving. All I could
chirp was gobble. I was so frightened. Would they cook me as a turkey? Would I turn back into a little
girl? I didn’t know but I knew that I had a mystery to solve. I went outside and clucked, “What the cocka-doodle is going on?” I couldn’t believe it at all. Everyone around me was a big brown turkey too!
Then I saw a wizard’s hat. I also saw a bottle. It said in big huge letters TURN PEOPLE INTO JUICY
TURKEYS. Lucas! I thought. My annoying 13 year old brother turned the neighborhood into turkeys.
So I went downstairs into my annoying brother’s room. I already knew he was making another potion. I
said, “Now listen to me you nut head. Turn everybody back into nice, innocent people who didn’t do
anything or so help me I will take your X-box and bury it.
“Fine, fine, sheesh, sheesh,” he said. He turned the town back into nice, innocent people.
Guess what? His X-Box was buried anyway by my nice Mom and Dad. The End

Treasure
by: Indiria
!
Is it treasure? Iʼve always
dreamed of finding treasure. But why
is it swimming in a fish bowl? Awww!
Itʼs not treasure, itʼs a goldfish and a few other fish.
I love my fishies. Ten of them are gold fish, two of them are grayish and one more
of them is just plain white. Now, even though I said “plain” does not mean my fish
are plain. My fish are pretty hyper, but if you tap the tank, they will totally get
scared. Just to let you know, you can call them any name you want because I
make up their names as I go.
!
My energetic fish would eat every last bit of that fish food even if they are full!
Thatʼs why you never feed them too much or they might explode, itʼs possible.
They are always going in their fish tank. Iʼm glad I never smell it because if it
smells bad, there would be a big problem. I feed them every day and night. Just
remember, never feed them too much food!
!
Even though my fish sleeps in a fishbowl, they love it! As soon as they eat
their last meal, which seems like a meal but isnʼt really a meal to us. Itʼs lights out
fishies. When we turn the lights off, we make sure the lid is closed just in case
they might try to jump out, and then we put a cover over all the tanks. Since it
sleeps in a fish tank, I canʼt really let it sleep in my bed like a cat or dog and I canʼt
cuddle up with it. Well I can probably hug the tank, but I canʼt hug fish, bummer! I
wish I could hug them. I wonder what can play with fish.
!
Well, I guess Iʼm missing out on all the fun because the two big fish jump in
and out of the tank when Iʼm sleeping. Once I thought it was a burglar because I
was sleeping. They especially jump out when Iʼm about to feed them. All of my
fish love swimming! I do too! Well I guess that makes me like a fish except I canʼt
stay more than 20 seconds under water. I think if I put them in a non-chlorine
water and swam with them, I wouldnʼt be missing out on the fun. Yeah! I found a
MY FRIEND
By: Madelyn
!
Did anyone ever ask you who your best friend is? Well if you ask me, I would
say “Aubrey G. is my best friend.” Youʼve probably never met her, but she has short,
curly brown hair, VERY pale skin, and is not the tallest person around.
!
Oh Aubrey. If you ever asked me why I liked her, I would DEFINITELY say,
“because we love to sleep in, we both HATE fish, and weʼve known each other for
nine years straight! Itʼs almost our anniversary.” Aubrey is so much FUN!
!
I remember the best day weʼve ever had so far. It was Halloween and Aubrey
came over so we go trick-or-treating together. JUST the two of us. When we got
back we shared candy with one another. When we got home, Aubrey and I asked
my dad if we could sleep in the living room, he agreed! Aubrey and I watched a
scary movie called, “Beetle Juice.” It wasnʼt scary at all. We had soda, popcorn, and
ice-cream. We finally went to bed at 10:30 p.m. So, who is your best friend?

President Icy
by Jordan
Have you ever built a snowman? Well my friend Nikki and
I built a very wackey snowman! It all started in Nikki’s
backyard. Then we began to build a snowman. We started
with the big ball for the bottom. Then we rolled up the
middle ball. Last but not least the head. One side of the head
looked like our first president. The other side looked like our
sixteenth president. Nikki and I maned him President Icy.
The he melted. Boo hoo! The End!
Winter
by Amya
Winter is a nice time of the year. I can hear many things in winter. I
could hear the snowplow plowing on my street. Another thing I could
hear is ice cracking. One time when I was opening my window to get
some fresh air some icicles fell from the roof and I closed my window
as fast as I could and I was safe.
Another thing I can do is make gingerbread cookies with my nana.
One time I was at my nana’s house and I wanted to make gingerbread
cookies and then we did. I could do another thing like build a
snowman. One time I was at my mom’s house and I was outside
playing in the snow. I was making a snowman. I rolled the big part
and the medium part with the little part too. I got a carrot out of the
refrigerator and went back outside. I gave it my hat, scarf, and some
arms. Then my mom came outside. She looked at the snowman and
smiled at me. I was happy.
Another thing I can see is snow angels. One time when I was going
to school I saw two snow angels on the ground. Then I saw three more
around the block. Some other things I see is falling snow. One time
when I was at the YMCA I looked out the window. It was snowing. I
was happy.
Winter
by Tyler
Let me tell you about winter. I can hear many things in
winter. One time a snowplow went past my house at 6:00. It
was so loud I can hear it from my bed. The hills that the
snowplow makes I like to climb on.
There are many things I can see in winter. I like to see the
snowflakes falling from the sky. When the snowflakes fall I like
to catch them on my tongue. Sometimes I see snowmen in the
snow.
There are many things to do in winter. When I build a snow
fort I like to do snowball fights with my brother Ryan.
Sometimes we have to shovel snow on the driveway. Winter is
fun!
