Figurative Language/Definitions and Examples Alliteration- The repeated consonant sounds in words that are close together. ex. "She sells seashells by the seashore" Hyperbole-a figure of speech used to exaggerate something ex. "I have a ton of homework." Metaphor- A comparison between two unlike things in which one thing becomes the other. ex. "He's such a bear today." Onomatopoeia- The use of a word whose sound imitates or suggests its meaning. Boom, bang, sniffle, rumble" Personification- Is where a nonhuman or nonliving thing or quality is talked about as if it were human. ex. "The leaves danced along the sidewalk." Simile-A comparison between two unlike things using the words like or as. ex. "Little trees like pencils strokes."
