WIRED UP Newsletter December 2015 Volume 5, Issue 4 A Personal Reminder... Our office manager, Amy, had a great experience over the Thanksgiving holiday, that we thought we would share with you. On Black Friday, Amy went to Limon, and then back home to Agate. She happened to get an email from InfoArmor our partnered identity theft protection service- that there had been some charges to her card that were suspicious. A few minutes later, InfoArmor contacted Amy by phone to ask her for more information about these charges. While she was on the phone with InfoArmor, her husband Eric received a call from their bank directly- also saying that some charges were seen and suspected to be fraud. It turns out- someone obtained Amy’s debit card information, made a fake card, and started charging stores in Highland Ranch, Centennial, and New York, and even in Paris, France. Fortunately, InfoArmor and their bank noticed these charges, alerted Amy so that the charges could be declined and no money was taken from her account. She is very thankful that InfoArmor took care of her, and protected her from being robbed of her money. If you don’t have Identity Theft Protection, you may want to invest in it- it was worth the annual payment in just this one incident that happened to Amy. If you are interested in InfoArmor go to either www.amtca.net or www.prairienetworks.net for more information and to register online. 2015 Fourth Quarter Giveaway Winners Are... It seems like time just flies by. I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a safe Black Friday. Before you know it Christmas and New Years will be here. On the DSL side of our network, we have placed two orders of equipment. The first is to upgrade the town of Agate with faster speed capabilities to meet the FCC guidelines. The equipment will be installed in our Central Office, in the first part of 2016, and we will then be testing our speeds. We will start to advertise these once we get everything installed and working. These new speed plans will be available to the town of Agate and County Roads- 153, 178, 162, 147, 125 (until fiber is buried to your locations). The second purchase is a mobile unit that will allow us to increase speeds to our rural customers, while we are still burying fiber to those locations. This has to be engineered to work properly, so we hope to have it installed by the end of the 1st quarter of 2016, but everything is contingent upon the manufacturers timeframe. On the realty side of things, Prairie Realty opened a second office in Limon in November. We also gained an additional agent that will be working out of that office full time. Her name is Alice Harreld, she has been in the real estate industry for the past 19 years, and has mainly worked in the Limon area. Our new office is located across from Napa at 223 Main Street. Drop by, and check out our office- and let us know if you have any real estate needs. Our other brokers, Kristina Nowak and Holly Hollembeak are also available to help serve your needs. As always, my door is open, you can contact me at the office, 764-2578, or at [email protected]. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Sincerely, Daniel Hollembeak General Manager WIRED UP Newsletter December 2015 Volume 5, Issue 4 Christmas is the season when you buy this year’s gifts with next year’s money. ~Author Unknown 5 Important Holiday Safety Pointers Holiday Safety is an issue that burns the brightest from late November to mid-January, the time when families gather, parties are scheduled and travel spikes. By taking some precautions, you can ensure your whole family remains safe and injury free throughout the season. 1) Watch for Fire StartersTurkey Fryers- are a big cause of fires if not handled properly. Since 2002 there have been 168 related fires, burns, explosions, or carbon monoxide poisoning incidents. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that 672 people have been injured and $8 million in property damage losses have resulted in these incidents. Candles- 12% of home candle fires occur in December according to the National Fire Prevention Association. 2) Decorating Injuries- 15,000 injuries involving holiday decorating were seen in emergency rooms during the season of 2012. Always use the proper tools, never take shortcuts, and make sure you're bending those knees! 3) Give Safely- it’s important when choosing toys for infants and children to avoid small parts, heavy or awkward, or have recalls. Check the Consumer Product Safety Commission website for more information. 4) Holiday Travel- use a designated driver, make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt, do not be distracted by a phone, and make sure your vehicle is properly maintained. 5) Eat Safely- make sure your foods are handled properly to avoid food poisoning, cross- contamination, and that you wash your hands frequently. Courtesy of The National Safety Council Shoveling snow is a major winter activity in many parts of the United States. Taking a few precautions can help you prevent unnecessary pain and suffering. Push instead of lifting, lift with legs not your back, and do not fill your shovel full, smaller scoops are better than bigger ones. WIRED UP Newsletter Short Shorts December 2015 Volume 5, Issue 4 The Wish The Mall Santa was very surprised when a young lady about 20 years old walked up and sat on his lap. Santa doesn’t usually take requests from adults, but she smiled very nicely at him, so he asked her, “What do you want for Christmas?” “Something for my mother, please” said the young lady. “Something for your mother? Well, that’s very thoughtful of you,” smiled Santa. “What do you want me to bring her?” Without blinking she replied, “a son-in-law!” The Turkey A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn’t find one big enough for her family She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?” The stock boy replied- “no ma’am, they’re dead,” and continued walking.
