Recess is an important part of our daily schedule with all students going outside for 20 minutes. We appreciate your assistance in making sure your child(ren) are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions with jackets, boots, hats, mittens, and snow pants. Thank you! FLAS approved $143 million in bond funding to make facility improvements all across the district. Thank you! Columbus Elementary, built in 1975, will receive many upgrades in three areas: Upgrades and repairs for improvements for better learning Upgrades to safety and security Repairs and deferred maintenance projects Construction of the new 7-12 grade campus at Forest Lake High School and current Century Junior High building will begin in the spring of 2017. Those improvements are expected to be completed in time for all secondary students to begin the 18-19 school year at the new combined campus. Our construction work at Columbus will be done in phases. All work will be completed by the 19-20 school year. This phased in work will be exciting for all of us. Our most current information will always be posted at www.flaschools.org I trust that you and your family will enjoy the start of the holiday season. Whether it is playing outside in the Minnesota winter, reading a good book, playing games, or just enjoying time together. To prevent the spread of illness in our schools, the Health Office would like to remind families of when to keep your child home from school. Your child may not return to school until they are: 24 hours after the start of taking medication for strep throat or pink eye Fever-free for 24 hours if they had a fever of 100 degrees or higher (without use of fever-reducing medication) Vomit or Diarrhea free for 24 hours after last episode Also, do not send your child to school if they have an uncontrollable cough or if your child has a rash without a known cause. If your child comes to school ill, the Health Office staff may contact you to pick your child. Following these guidelines is extremely important for the protection of our students and staff. Preventing the spread of diseases allows students to have less sick days from school.
