From Principal Fox,
Dear Columbus Families,
The approved Bond proposal was the
culmination of work and effort from
many. Thank you!
FLAS approved $143 million in bond
funding to make facility improvements
all across the district. Thank you!
Columbus Elementary, built in 1975, will
receive many upgrades in three areas:



Upgrades and repairs for improvements for better learning
Upgrades to safety and security
Repairs and deferred maintenance
projects
Construction of the new 7-12 grade
campus at Forest Lake High School
and current Century Junior High building will begin in the spring of 2017.
Those improvements are expected to
be completed in time for all secondary
students to begin the 18-19 school year
at the new combined campus. Our
construction work at Columbus will be
done in phases. All work will be completed by the 19-20 school year. This
phased in work will be exciting for all of
us.
Our most current information will always
be posted at www.flaschools.org
I trust that you and your family will enjoy
the start of the holiday season. Whether
it is playing outside in the Minnesota
winter, reading a good book, playing
games, or just enjoying time together.
And, please remember that it is truly a
pleasure to have your children here
every day and to have the opportunity
to watch them grow both socially and
academically.
Have a Safe and Happy Holiday!

To prevent the spread of illness in our schools, the Health Office would like to remind
families of when to keep your child home from school. Your child may not return to
school until they are:



24 hours after the start of taking medication for strep throat or pink eye
Fever-free for 24 hours if they had a fever of 100 degrees or higher (without use of
fever-reducing medication)
Vomit or Diarrhea free for 24 hours after last episode
Also, do not send your child to school if they have an uncontrollable cough or if your
child has a rash without a known cause.
If your child comes to school ill, the Health Office staff may contact you to pick your
child. Following these guidelines is extremely important for the protection of our students and staff. Preventing the spread of diseases allows students to have less sick
days from school.
Everyone can do their part at preventing the spread of disease by:



Keeping our kids home when they are ill
Washing hands frequently with soap
Coughing and sneezing into your elbow
