Homophones
Homophones are words that sound the same but are spelled
differently and have different meanings.
Break
Brake
To cause something to separate into two or
more pieces.
To retard or stop, to hit the brakes of a vehicle.
How did you break your arm?
You need to brake or you will crash the car!
Board
Bored
A long, thin, flat piece of wood.
To feel boredom, to be devoid of interest.
Johnny has a gnarly surf board.
Andy was quite bored at the meeting.
Passed
Past
To do well on an exam.
Referring to something that has gone by.
Sarah passed the test with flying colors.
Amy is thin now, but she was quite fat in the
past.
