THIS ASSIGNMENT IS DUE THURSDAY, AFTER THE ONLY DAY THERE IS NO SBA
TESTING THIS WEEK.
1) SOLVE PROBLEM #4 at the end of the handout (I just sent this out on remind if
you don't have one!)
2) SOLVE the two problems below.
a. Nick can kick the football a long, long way for a kickoff. He kicks at a velocity
25 m/s at angle of 37 degrees. (a) What is the hang time of the ball? (b)
What is the range of the ball? c) what is the max height of the ball?
b. An ROTC cadet shoots an air rifle that launches a pellet from the top of cliff
that is 57 meters high. She aims the gun at an angle of 37 degrees below
horizontal to hit a target. The muzzle velocity of the gun is 200 m/s. (a) How
long is the pellet in the air? (b) What is the range of the pellet?
HINTS:
See answers below
#4 OIN THE BACK OF HANDOUT - VERTICAL INITIAL VELOCITY IS ZERO
NICK FOOTBALL - SYMMETRIC, VERTICAL VELOCITY AT THE TOP OF THE PATH IS
ZERO, TO FIND THE INITIAL HORIZONTAL VELOCITY Vx = 25 cos 37, initial vertical
velocity 25 sin 37
ROTC - initial horizontal is 200 cos 37 and initial vertical is 200 sin 37 BUT MAKE IT
NEGATIVE!!!!! IT GOING DOWN. Hey you can solve a quadratic if you want. If
you don't want to, then solve for the final vertical velocity first, then solve for
time.
Answers NOT IN ORDER:
#4 ~14, ~51, ~14?., ~16??., ~ 18?.
Nick Football 3, 11, 60
ROTC -120, -125, 0.46, 74, 160
