IMS has outfitted several classrooms with wireless microphones. In a number of cases, a secondary mic
is also available as a backup in case the battery dies on the primary mic. Below are some general tips to
ensure the battery packs are properly seated in the charging base so that they are always recharging
while not in use. To start, let’s identify the components.
Components
Lavalier microphone and clip (aka Lav Mic)
This is the microphone stem that clips to your shirt collar and plugs into
the battery pack below.
Wireless microphone transmitter (aka battery pack or belt pack)
This device clips to your belt and transmits speech from the Lav Mic
(above) to a wireless receiver mounted in the equipment cabinet or
teaching console.
Note: Only one battery pack can be used at a time. If both are
powered simultaneously, you will hear static through the classroom
speakers.
1. Power switch. Has three positions: off, mute and on.
2. Lav microphone connector
3. Status light. Green = on, red = mute
Microphone charging base
This is where you place the battery pack when not
in use so that it may recharge for further use.
Charging the Battery Packs
IMS has identified the front of both the battery pack and the charging base. Matching up these markers
will ensure that the battery pack is properly seated in the base, the electrical contacts are properly
aligned and thus the battery properly charging.
Below you will find a variety of images featuring a typical wireless system found in our classrooms.
These images and tips will help you ensure the battery packs are properly seated in the charging base so
that they are always recharging while not in use.
Fully Charged
In the image below, note the status lights indicating that both battery packs are properly seated in the
base and fully charged (indicated by a green status light)
Charging
In the following image note the red status light that indicates the left battery pack is charging, while the
right is fully charged. In this case, you would use the battery pack on the right for your class while the
other continues to charge.
Incorrect Placement
It is possible to incorrectly put the battery pack back into the charging base, but a quick glance at the
status lights will indicate this. Below, one of the battery packs has been placed in backwards. Note that
the status light is not lit at all.
Another example of an improperly seated battery pack is pictured below, where the microphone cord is
wrapped around the battery pack, preventing proper contact and thus not charging. Again, note that the
status light is not illuminated.
Instead, you could try the following when returning the battery pack to the charging base.
Following these tips will ensure that every classroom users will have a fully charged, fully operational
microphone at their disposal. Your cooperation and care in ensuring these steps are met is greatly
appreciated by IMS and your fellow colleagues.
