When to study Calculus . . .
When to work on that Communications report . . . .
If you should take on a part time job:
168 HOURS IN WEEK

Repetition, discussion, practice

Create a study group
 Make
 Never

sure everyone in the group can do everything
put your name on something that you did not do
Studying & Time Management

Plan your week

Schedule every course
Attend instructor office hours / Go to Help Desks
yourself and talk about the course
 If you don't have a question, just come and listen

Don't delay the difficult ones!
 Introduce

Do homework that is assigned
sure you can do anything
(not just the questions that were on the assignment.)

Plan for the unexpected

Top Study Tips
How to study Math (and anything else)
Math is an activity -- do it rather than watching



Frequency of studying is a key to learning
Always start early, and get help as soon as
something is not working
When you seek help, bring your work
•
Set specific, clear, study goals
•
Do all of the work (start early)
•
It is easier to achieve ‘on the day’ if you
have first achieved in practice
•
Be aware of all of the resources available
Be responsible for your own learning


Who is most likely to get the best grade?
A Story of Success
A person who is naturally gifted in the course
subject, but can’t get into studying it.
 A person who is does all the work and is just getting
to understand some of the course concepts:
definitely does not consider himself gifted.
