Reading and Homework
School Dinners
Reading is one of lives pleasures so please enjoy reading
with your children. Every child is expected to read every
night. If your child in is Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
you will need to write comments in their reading log. If
you child is in Years 3,4,5 and 6 they will be using their
reading logs.
School dinners are free to all primary aged pupils in Newham. If
your child currently has a packed lunch we will be contacting you
to ensure you are aware of the savings you can make and the
options available on the school dinner menu. Both of our cooks
offer a tasty variety of healthy meals at lunchtime.
Times tables and spellings should be practised every day.
We are also very excited about the Curiosity Projects that
children have been completing. We hope you are enjoying
them too.

A warm welcome back to the new school year. A special welcome to the new families that have joined us in
Nursery and Reception. Please let us know if you have any concerns as starting school can be a challenging
time for both parents and children.
Packed lunches
If you are sending in a packed lunch it is important that it is
healthy. Chocolate, biscuits, crisps, fizzy drinks and fruit shoots
are not allowed. I suggest instead: sandwiches, fruit, raisins,
carrots, cucumber sticks, yoghurt and water to drink.

Issue 1—September 2016
During the summer holidays, we had the main office refurbished. I think it looks really professional and I
hope it helps you feel more welcome to our school. We also had a number of windows replaced by the local
authority. It’s great to have windows that actually open!
Fruit and Vegetables
I am also pleased that we have added a pedestrian gate and path to separate cars and pedestrians. We have
also added special ‘children’ signs near the yellow zig zag lines to remind car drivers that for the safety of
children cars should not pull up onto the yellow zig zag lines.
Children in Key stage 1 will be receiving healthy snacks at
morning break. KS2 children may bring in a piece of fruit for
morning break.
A big welcome back, to Ms Jones, who joins us after her maternity leave.

Finally Hallsville did extremely well in their end of year SATS tests. A huge well done to all the staff and
pupils for this fantastic achievement. Once the results are validated Ms Johnson (Head of School) will put
them on the website.
