Beowulf Mini

Beowulf Mini-Project
Directions: Choose ONE of the following projects to complete.
*The project will be worth one test grade!!*
Option #1:
Create a one-page, six-cell comic strip of Beowulf. It can be one
scene, or the whole story, but it must include a lot of detail. You
will not be graded on your artistic ability, but on your accuracy
and attention to detail.
Option #2:
Write a one-page boast from Beowulf’s perspective, at the end
of his life. The boast should be in first-person, and should
include the events from the story, as well as at least two events
that were not in the story. Be creative, and try to sound like
Beowulf.
Option #3:
Grendel's mother is very sad at the death of her son. Write a
poem, in any style you wish, from the viewpoint of Grendel's
mother lamenting the death of her beloved child. You need at
least four stanzas. You need to include details of the events that
happened in the story.
Assignment: As we have studied in class, scops were known for orally
sharing tales of heroes for the world to hear. Your task is to be just like a
scop, but with a twist. Retell the tale of one of Beowulf’s mighty
battles through your choice of one of the following methods:
____ A television interview: (news/talk show) Beowulf is the person to know on this television
interview. Be sure to ask questions you feel will fit the genre of show you choose to use.
Must be at least 5 minutes in length.
____ A song performance: Scops sung the stories of heroes from town to town. What will your
song sound like? Must have at least 2 verses and a chorus. Will be sung/played in
class.
___ A reenactment of the battle scene with narration: The best way to show people how it went
down is to act it out. Create a short script and act out the battle scene. Must not
actually cause harm to any students!!! Please meet with Ms. Stainback to have all
props and script approved before your performance. Must be 5 minutes in length.
You must include in the form of a script:
___ Beowulf’s feelings/thoughts about watching people die around him (before the battle)
___ Beowulf’s feelings/thoughts during the fight
___ A blow-by-blow description or account of the battle
___ Beowulf’s feelings/thoughts about having killed or not killed his foe/enemy
All students must participate and write a paragraph detailing their roles and the
roles of all group members.
