Ending Sound Search

Ending Sound Search
Congratulations on your purchase of Really Good Literacy Centerin-a-Bag™ Ending Sound Search, a hands-on activity that
strengthens your students’ letter-sound correspondence skills.
Objective
Students match ending sounds to letters.
Meeting State Standards
This type of practice in identifying ending sounds helps
students meet grade-level expectations and prepare for
standardized testing. Ending Sound Search can also help
letter-sound correspondence for emergent readers.
This Really Good Stuff® product includes:
• 65 Learning Deck Cards™
• 1 Felt Bag
• Center Task Card
• This Really Good Stuff® Activity Guide
Model the Activity
Begin by modeling the activity, discussing every step with
students. Select an ending sound and write its corresponding
letter on the Work Sheet. Gather its corresponding Cards and a
few other picture Cards with different ending sounds and place
them all in the Bag. Point out the letter sound that you have
written at the top of the Work Sheet so students know where to
find the target ending sound. Pull a Card from the Felt Bag and
name it, emphasizing the ending sound. If it has the same ending
sound as the target letter, draw the picture in the Thumbs Up
Column. If not, draw the picture in the Thumbs Down Column, and
write the ending sound next to the picture. Continue until all the
picture Cards are gone.
Center Task Card
Matching ending sounds is an important part of phonological
awareness. With Ending Sound Search, early readers have fun
isolating and identifying ending sounds. Through repeated play,
students gain confidence as identifying ending sounds
becomes automatic!
Post this at the literacy center in a visible position. The student
or helper can refer to the Center Task Card for instructions.
Refer to the shaded section at the top of the Card for center
preparation, including needed materials.
