Mapping Your Home Drive – For Windows XP
In order to access you Home directory outside of college you must have the VPN service active. For more

What is Drive Mapping?
This is a letter or name assigned to a disk or tape drive. In a computer file system, the basic drive mappings
are A: for the floppy disk and C: for the primary hard disk. When new peripherals are added to the system,
additional drive mappings are assigned by the operating system based on the next available letter (D:, E:,
etc.). In a network, drive mappings reference remote drives, and you have the option of assigning the letter
of your choice. For example, on your local machine, you might use K: to refer to drive C: and a specific
directory on a server in the network. Each time K: is referenced on that local machine, the drive and
directory on the remote machine is substituted behind the scenes
CONFIGURATION
Firstly you need to find the location of your home directory.
Many departments provide your Home Directory from a departmental file server, which your PC connects
to when you log on. By Default your Home Directory would then be available from your H: drive. In this
case, your Home Directory server may be known to ICT and the ICT Service Desk may be able to provide
this information.

MAPPING YOUR DIRECTORY
Right click on My Computer and
select Map Network Drive.
