Why French Immersion?
For the 2016-2017 school year, Prairie Valley
School Division is offering French Immersion
from Kindergarten to Grade 7 at École White
City School and from Kindergarten to Grade 3
at Lumsden Elementary School. Each year the
program expands by one grade level to ensure
that students have access to French Immersion as
they continue elementary school.
There are many great reasons to have your child
attend an immersion program:
Transportation
Transportation is provided either through bussing
in designated areas or through parent paid travel.
For more information about transportation,

Enhances cognitive and itellectual abilities
Numerous reports have shown that French as a
second language education does not diminish
math or English-language skills. In fact, studies
suggest that learning a second language can
enhance cognitive and intellectual abilities.
Fosters excellent communicators
Students with two languages are better able to
communicate their thoughts and understand and
respond to the needs of others. Their exposure to
another culture makes them more respectful of
differences.
Is easy for everyone
No special skills are required. Children with all
types of academic ability can succeed in French
Immersion.
Learning more than one language is increasingly
recognized as a lifelong gift, enhancing a child’s
self-esteem and opening the doors to a wider
world of study, travel and employment.
