April Calendar 2017 God Centered Education for Life Dear Parents, APRIL!!! I can’t believe it! The year has just flown! The weather sure keeps us guessing…..warm one day and freezing the next! It is a good idea to keep that hat and mittens in your child’s back pack. First recess is often still a bit chilly! I am trying to soak up each and every day with this class. They have been a delight! Our Planted in Trust…Rooted in Faithfulness theme for the month of April is “Generations of Tree Rings.” Sheldon Christian School was planted in faith and has grown to be a 100 year old tree. Just as a tree adds a ring per year, so each generation has impacted and benefited from their connection to and support of our school. Our theme verse comes from Psalm 145:1-7, A psalm of praise. Of David. 1 I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. 2 Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. 3 Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. 4 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. 5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty— and I will meditate on your wonderful works.[b] 6 They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds. 7 They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. ” Our theme song for the month will be “One Generation Will Call to the Next.” In Bible this month, we will complete our Easter memory verses and begin on a simple version of the 10 Commandments. We will be doing a special Easter craft. Please take the following items to school in an ice cream bucket with a lid: (The items may be mixed.) 1 c. salt and 2 c. flour. Also bring 1 vegetable can (empty, clean and can be put in the bucket also) and a piece of cardboard about 12”x12” covered with aluminum foil. Please mark your child’s name on the bucket and cardboard. We do not need this immediately but will need it for art on April 6. Feel free to send it whenever and I can store it at school. We will finish our Easter stories and then move on to stories about Elijah and Elisha. In math we will continue working with writing our numbers to 100. We will be working to make our numbers the correct direction. We will move on to 3 Dimensional shapes and position words. We will also be practicing our subtraction facts. Our much anticipated 100th day of school will fall in May. The class is doing such a nice job of reading! I can tell that they have been practicing their take home reading books. That is the best way to jump start those reading skills! Be sure to ask them what their story is about so that they are accountable for comprehending what they have read. Encourage them to read other books too! Many are ready for the challenge! THANKS, PARENTS! Our theme for Show and Tell during the month of April will be occupations. The students may describe their father or mother's occupation or may introduce us to an occupation that they might choose when they are older. This could include showing pictures or products of this occupation, showing occupation specific clothing, demonstrating or displaying tools of this job, a parent-child joint show and tell, or any other ideas you might have. If you need a special time or special arrangements, please call so I can adjust our schedule to fit yours. (I'm sure we can do some Show and Tell switching to accommodate your availability!) Our Social Studies and extra learning activities will be about farms in contrast with towns. We will also focus on community helpers and occupations. THANKS AGAIN for the support you give from home.
