Look at the place-value chart below. Hundreds 5 Tens 8 Ones 2 This means that there are 5 hundreds, 8 tens, and 2 ones, or the number 582. 5 hundreds = 500 8 tens = 80 2 ones = 2 So, the expanded form for 582 is 500 + 80 + 2. What is the expanded form of 46? If you said 40 + 6, you are correct!!! If not, look back at the place-value chart and see where the digits in 46 belong. Then try it again. What happens if there is a zero in the tens place? What would the expanded form look like?
