What`s hap- pening in Year 2

Topic: We started the half
term with a topic called “Poles
Apart” which the children enjoyed, linking our learning to
the North and South Poles.

Please continue to listen to, discuss and
question your child about his or her reading; about 10 minutes a day would be
great. Encourage them to predict story
endings, characters’ feelings, etc, and
discuss punctuation such as speech marks
and commas in a list.
Year 2
As we prepare for our Christmas
productions we will be looking at
Christianity in general as a faith,
including what Christians believe,
how they celebrate, some Bible
stories and the special events, people and objects
they may use.

Helping your child at home:
Literacy:
Please can children bring their reading
book and blue reading record each day.

We will be reading lots of fiction stories and nonfiction texts and looking for similarities, differences
and giving our personal opinion.

We will be reading some Bible stories and Aesop’s
fables and looking at the moral messages behind
them.

Children should be reading aloud with increasing fluency and expression, and should be able to answer
questions about what they have read.

We are beginning to work towards an even style of
handwriting with correctly formed and placed letters,
and on joining up letters.

We will continue with phonics teaching for reading
and spelling.

Routines & Special dates:

PE is every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Library will be on a Tuesday.

Reading books can be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
On Friday 4th December we will have a Year
1 and 2 trip to a Bethlehem experience at St
Mary’s church in Weymouth, combined with
a visit to Weymouth library. More details to
follow.

each number to 10 (eg 3+7=10) and 20.

