Enrichment Project
“I am passionate about teaching and learning and believe education is about developing the
whole person socially, emotionally and spiritually as well as academically. In Key Stage 2 the
PSHE and Religious education curriculum has been combined to form our ‘Culture and Care
Curriculum’ and will be taught through a topic approach, mainly on Friday afternoons. In Key
Stage 3 the students spend Friday afternoons involved in our new ‘Enrichment Project’.
Through these activities we hope to cover the Citizenship curriculum, promote the school values
and ‘light their fire!”
In order to help to facilitate taking the students out of school, inviting specialists into school and
buying relevant resources and equipment we will be having a whole school sponsored walk.
This will take place on Friday, 25th September; whatever the weather! The sponsor form is
provided with this newsletter and your support in helping your child to raise as much money as
possible would be much appreciated.
Mrs Jane Kennedy
Uniform
The children look very smart. Thank you so much for ensuring that they are dressed smartly
and appropriately. Please ensure that all items of uniform, equipment and packed lunch boxes
are named. We have introduced a ‘Cuff Club’ – an attempt to ensure that the cuffs on the school
jumpers remain intact and we are trying to eradicate the chewing of the cuffs! If you have any
queries regarding uniform, including shoes and hairstyles, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Reports and Parent’s Evenings
As you may be aware, assessment arrangements in first, middle and high schools are changing
alongside new curriculum content. We are now entering ‘Life without Levels’. In an attempt to
make it easier for parents to see how their child is doing, we will now be reporting whether your
child is at, below or above national expectations for their year group. The children in Year 6 will
no longer receive a level in the SAT tests either. We will soon be setting targets for the end of
this academic year and will aim to keep you well informed throughout the year. Please see the
calendar at the end of the newsletter for advance notice of all the main dates for the year. Whilst
we will do our best to keep to these dates; they may be subject to change.
Homework Club
Homework Club will start again on Wednesday
9th September 3:30—4:30, and will then run
every Wednesday.
Come along and get your homework done with
Mrs McDonald and Mrs Parkinson to help you.

Mobile Phones
School Dinners
If your child wishes to bring a mobile phone
into school they may do so, providing this is
left in the mobile phone trolley which is kept
in the school office during the day.
It must be switched off and put into the trolley before morning registration, and can be
collected at the end of the day.
Shortly Year 8 students will have the opportunity to have a locker where they will be
able to keep their belongings
We are delighted that so many children
are choosing to have a school dinner.
The cost of a dinner is now £2:40. We
hope that you will find it helpful to see
the menus in advance so that you are
able to discuss them with your child to
help them to make an informed choice.
Menus are attached to the back of this
newsletter.
Lost Property
Local Police Office Space
As mentioned in the last newsletter we have been able to offer
the local police officer and community officer some office space
within our school. I am pleased
to inform you that this move has
now gone ahead. I would like to
reassure parents that this will
just be office space – there will
be no visitors, criminal or otherwise, onto the school premises
and certainly no need for cells! I
am pleased that the school is
able to support the local community in this way.
Please, please, please make
sure that all of your child’s
clothing and personal items
are clearly labelled, otherwise
it is very difficult to find and
return items to their correct
owners.
No valuable items should be
brought into school.
Important Information Regarding Allergies
If your child has any food allergies would you please
let the school office know, even if they do not have a
school dinner.
Student Journals
All children have been given a new student journal. Please could you
sign this every week so that you can respond to any messages your
child may have, and to show that you are monitoring your child’s
homework.
If your child loses their journal there is a replacement charge of £3.
