Description of Course
Course Title:
9th Grade English, GP Seminar - # 108SM
Description:
The ninth grade G. P. Seminar English curriculum is a literature based program. Students will
study elements of fiction along with certain literary devices and apply them to such works as
Romeo and Juliet, Of Mice and Men, and various short stories and poetry. The study of these
literary selections will result in a variety of companion writing assignments. In addition to the
vocabulary that is derived from the literature, a vocabulary series (Vocabulary Through
Pleasurable Reading) will be utilized. This course has been designed to develop in general
students’ higher skills in thinking, listening, speaking, and writing.
Goals:
By the end of ninth grade students will be able to write five coherent paragraphs containing
transition elements, sentence variety, central idea, and thesis sentence. They will be able to
define and apply essential elements of fiction.
