Pilvi Takala, the winner of Emdash Award has decided to use the £10 000 budget as follows:
£ 1000 for presentation at Frieze fair and The Committee’s travel to Frieze Fair
£ 2000 research costs, visits and trips
£ 7000 for The Committee to spend as they like
-The Committee has £ 7000 to spend in any way they want to
-There is no right or wrong way to spend the money
-The adults involved should not influence the Committee’s decision. They are there to facilitate the
Committee’s work, research and to help to realise the Committee’s plans.
HOW WOULD YOU SPEND £ 7000?

Make a film
Thorpe Park
NEW IDEAS
Skip pool / ball pit
Hire a skip, divide it in half and fill the other side with water
and the other side with balls. A slide would be going into it.
Good: it’s fun and simple to make
Question: you get wet in the water and then the balls get
wet?
Answer: towel, dry up before going to the balls and the balls are plastic so being wet is not a big
deal
Question: where should it go?
Answer: Mobile or over where Olivia and Lauren live
Question: what about when it is cold?
Answer: You can make it into a Jacuzzi
Comments: good, perfect, superb
Design a new piece of furniture
For example a chair that reclines gives massage
Rent the warehouse & equipment needed with the money
A float
Design a float and take it to a festival in a public park
The float would show our art work
Drive in / outdoor in Cinema in Viccy park
There are no cinemas in our area
Make an event / a fair to raise money for charity
For example for cancer research
Collage of Royal Baby
(A similar one of the Queen exists in Gatwick arrivals)
Collage is made of a grid of small photographs that are organized by colore. When you step far
away from the collage you see that the small photos make a huge picture of Baby George.
There would also be sound so blind people can experience it. Sounds of London and cheering for
the baby.
We would put it up somewhere where everyone can see it
When the royal baby grows up he will appreciate the piece, he will hear all the people cheering for
him.
Question: This sounds like you don’t need to spend money on this, making a collage if free
Answer: You need to produce it and if you want to put it outside it needs to be strong enough.
Massive sign of my name
It would go near my area
Comments:
-It’s good beacause you can say something belongs to
you
-There should be our names as well
-Some people in our area might not like that he defines
something as his, they might say it’s not yours. You
could put the name of the park on the sign instead.
-I could put E3 instead of my name
Mini City
Different buildings, bridges and places from around the world in one place, so people who haven’t
seen the buildings abroad can see it. Landmark buildings like Empire State Building.
Comment: I like it because all the countries can be together, not so far a part. You can go to a different country without going on a plane, you can just walk there
Go to Southend and go on the rides
Comments:
-It takes 2 hours to get there and then you have to wait in a line for quite a while to get on the
rides.
-It doesn’t always take time to get on the rides, sometimes there are no lines.
-You can get a fast track pass to go on the rides.
-I know someone who works near the rides and if we get hungry they could get us food.
Make our own ride
Comments:
-Going to Southend is better because the rides are better
-If we make our own ride we don’t have to queue
-Maybe the people who want to go to Southend can make their
own little Southend in the mini city
Under 13 year old’s Art park
Including replicas of famous paintings, a slide that goes into a pit with pillows made out of old tshirts. And I would like to add Peter’s idea in this one, the mini city, so people can see all around
the world.
Comments:
-You should make it for every age, because it’s not fair for over 13 year old’s
-The park would be quite delicate, many things would be made of paper not wood and break easily, so over 13 year olds might just break it.
-We could go paint balling
VOTE:
1. Favorite 3 points
2. Second favorite 2 points
3. Third favorite 1 point
RESULTS top 3:
Mini City 15 points
Southend 10 points
Royal Baby collage 8 points
Skip pool 8 points
Mini City vs. Southend
-Making a mini city is better because it is an activity, doing something yourself, like painting etc.
When you go to Southend you just go on a ride and that’s all.
-Mini city is more boring than Southend
-Mini city is better than Southend because Southend is quite crowded and there’s too much going
on so you might get too distracted, but with mini city you know what you are doing, you don’t get
distracted.
-Southend is going to sink (there’s a flood) so we’ll be better off with mini city
-Mini city is better because instead of going to Southend you can just build Southend
Mini City vs. Royal Baby collage
-Royal Baby collage is good for blind people, because they can’t watch TV and don’t know what’s
actually going on. So blind people could come and find out what happened about the royal baby
for themselves instead of just hearing about it from people.
-It’s good for people to realize how much they really love the baby and it shows the Queen some
respect to her great grandchild
Mini City vs. Skip pool
-skip pool is scarier
Combination suggestions:
-Mini city & skip pool: you can make the skip into a mini city
-You can combine mini city, skip pool and Southend, the beach can be in the city
-The skip shouldn’t be small! it has to be big
