Converting Metric Fun
Directions: Take your data from THAT'S RIGHT, THE METRIC SYSTEM LAB and convert it to others units of
measurement in the metric system. Remember, the metric system is based on 10. This means you can convert
to other metric units by moving the decimal point left or right (divide and multiply). You can use your
textbook for help in converting and your notes. You are also welcome to use the chart to help you convert in
the metric system. Use and include the correct units for each conversion. Thanks.
LENGTH (DISTANCE)
1. Convert your height to millimeters, meters and kilometers.
Are you the tallest in millimeters, centimeters, meters, or kilometers? How do you know?
2. Convert your arm span to, millimeters, decimeters, meters, decameters, hectometers, and kilometers.
3. Convert desk measurements to mm, dm, m, and km.
MASS
1. Convert mass of workbook to milligrams, centigrams, and kilograms.
2. Convert mass of pen or pencil to milligrams, centigrams, and kilograms.
3. Convert mass of 5 paper clips to milligrams, centigrams, and kilograms.
VOLUME
1. Convert volume of water in bottle to centiliters, deciliters, and liters.
2. Convert volume of the marble (glass orb) to centiliters, deciliters, and liters.
TEMPERATURE
1. Convert to Fahrenheit.

Celsius to Fahrenheit

1. Add 40
2. Multiply by 1.8
3. Subtract 40
3. Convert to Fahrenheit.
4. It reached 134 degrees Fahrenheit at Furnace Creek, CA. on July 10, 1913. Convert this to Celsius.
Use the following formula: (add 40, divide by 1.8, then subtract 40)
5. Why did I have you use 40 when doing the converting between Fahrenheit and Celsius?
