What is VCI, actually?
VCI stands for “Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor”. It is volatile because the VCI active substance contained in the film
evaporates and collects on bare metal surfaces. This forms an invisible layer of protection that reliably protects
the metal from corrosion.

Corrosion
What is corrosion, exactly?
Corrosion causes rust, which we’re all familiar with.
Examples include rusty screws and barrels, rust on balcony railings
and rust on machines and machine parts.
Rust is the end product of the corrosion process that occurs when iron
or steel is oxidized through contact with water.
If the surface has been damaged, the corrosion process progresses
rapidly. This is why metal must be protected from corrosion. In Germany,
billions of dollars worth of damage results from rust, the resulting loss in
productivity and capacity and the repair costs involved. It amounts to
around 3 - 4% of the gross national product of the country.
When can corrosion occur?

Corrosion: What can we do about it?
• Select suitable materials
• Surfaces should be as smooth as possible, as rough surfaces
provide more surface area for corrosion to occur

Corrosion formation
Corrosion has many faces and causes and can occur in many different places.
A differentiation is made between different types of corrosion:
Corrosion type

...on non-rusting steels (stainless steel) in contact with base materials, like steel
