So rich in history and so very alive, the city leaves a deep impression on all who visit. Rome is a must for lovers of art, and is the city with the highest concentration of historical and architectural riches in the world, with over 16% of the world’s cultural treasures. It is the only city in the world to host an entire foreign state in its confines, the Vatican City. Amongst the variety of proverbs and sayings about Rome is “He, who Rome does not see, believes in nothing”. Our hotel The 4 star Royal Santina Hotel occupies a prime location in the city centre close to the Baths of Diocletian and the magnificent archaeological collection at the Museo Romano. Although in a central location the rooms are sound-proofed to ensure a peaceful nights’ sleep. All en-suite rooms are well equipped with TV with Satellite channels, hairdryer, telephone and free WiFi access. OUR ITINERARY Day 1 A morning departure* by coach from Hove to Gatwick for the flight to Rome. On arrival we will be met by our tour manager and coach for the transfer to our hotel, with an orientation tour of Rome en-route. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening. make this church a must for art lovers, with the famous Chigi Chapel, designed by Raphael and the Cerasi Chapel, adorned with two striking Caravaggio masterpieces, the Crucifixion of St Peter and the Conversion of St Paul. The afternoon & evening will be free to explore Rome at our own pace. Day 2 Today we will spend a full day exploring Rome, part coach, part walking. With a local guide we will tour sights such as Castel St Angelo, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navone. We will also have a tour inside the 4 thC A.D Santa Maria in Trastevere, home to dazzling 12 thC mosaics, and visit The Vatican, including a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. The evening will be free. Day 4 Our visit today is to the ancient town of Tivoli, where we will visit Villa D’Este and Villa Adriana. The Villa d’Este is a masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a muchcopied model for European gardens. The Villa Adriana was created in the 2 ndC A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian and is an incredible complex of buildings which combine the best elements of architectural heritage of Egypt, Greece and Rome to form an “ideal city”. We return to Rome and the evening will be free. Day 3 This morning we visit Santa Maria del Polpolo, which sits often unnoticed in a corner of the vast Piazza del Popolo. How to book Best Group Sh 2014 ort Haul N WIN ER r ur O perato - To Day 5 After breakfast we depart our hotel and transfer to Villa Borghese, now the largest public park in Rome, and one of Rome’s abiding pleasures and attractions for Romans and visitors alike. The intimate and charming cinema there, was entered in the Guinness book of Records as the world’s smallest picture house, converted from an old bar. The Restaurants, and the wonderful replica of London’s Shakespearean Globe Theatre, are also well worth a visit. It is also home to Galleria Borghese, a collection of antiquities, from the Renaissance to the beginnings of baroque art, housed in a magnificent 17 thC villa, which we will also visit. Early afternoon* we continue to the airport for our return flight. Upon arrival at Gatwick our coach will meet us for the return to Hove.
