Year 9 – Photography Homework First Half Term Over the next 6 weeks you will complete a range of research tasks. Each piece of research must be handed in weekly. You are going to research various elements of photography. Write in a language that you understand. DO NOT copy and paste. Try to answer as many questions as possible. Aim Higher Find more information. The more information you find the more interesting and informative your research pages will Aim Higher be. Week 1 – Research SHUTTER SPEED. 1. 2. 3. What is shutter speed? What do photographers use shutter speed for? What is shutter speed measured in? Give an example. Week 2 – Research DEPTH OF FIELD. 1. 2. 3. 4. What does ‘depth’ mean in terms of photography? To create depth you should have objects in the _ _ _ _ground, _ _ _ _ _ _ground and _ _ _ _ground. Using depth you can alter which object is in focus. What does ‘in focus’ mean? What does ‘out of focus’ mean? Week 3 – Research LEADING LINES & VIEWPOINT. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. What does ‘leading lines’ mean? What can leading lines do? Give an example of what could be used within a photograph to achieve this. What does ‘viewpoint’ mean in terms of photography? Why do photographers use a range of viewpoints? Week 4 – Research PATTERN & SYMMETRY. 1. 2. 3. Define ‘pattern’. Define ‘symmetry’. Why do photographers look out for pattern and symmetry when photographing? Week 5 – Research APERTURE. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. What does aperture mean? What is aperture measured in? The lower the number the ………………………. the image. The higher the number the ……………………….the image. What is the technical term when an image is too bright? What is the technical term when an image is too dark? Week 6 – Research RULE OF THIRDS. 1. 2. 3. 4. What does ‘composition’ mean? What is the ‘rule of thirds’? How many sections make up the grid? What term is used where the lines cross? *See overleaf for an example research page.* Your research page MUST be PRINTED and ready to hand in on the due date. Time WILL NOT be given in the lesson to print and I WILL NOT accept USB sticks during the lesson. You are more than welcome to come to Y116 to use laptops and printing facilities before the due date. What does it mean? Aperture refers to the size of the opening that allows light into the camera. F Aperture is measured in F-Stops. Aperture works very closely with shutter speed. Whilst the aperture controls how much light enters the camera, shutter speed determines how long the image is exposed. Over exposed. Under exposed. Lower f-stop = more light Higher f-stop = Less light The lower the number the brighter the image. The higher the number the darker the image.
