Revolutionary New Laser Technology
Improves Modern Dental Implants and More
Laser dentistry reduces infection, speeds healing and improves results for many
common dental procedures including dental implants.
Teeth are meant to last a lifetime,
yet despite our best efforts at
dental hygiene, this is often not
the case. In fact, more than one in
five Americans over the age of 65
experiences tooth loss. Missing
teeth can affect speech and make
it difficult to chew food properly.
The surrounding teeth can become
tipped or crowded, leading to
further dental issues. Worse yet,
once a tooth is missing, and there
is no root anchored to the jaw, the
bone begins to deteriorate and
bone loss occurs. Missing teeth can
also ruin the overall appearance
of the smile, leading to decreased
confidence and self-esteem.
For many years, the standard
treatment for tooth loss involved
crowning the neighboring teeth and
placing a dental prosthesis, known
as a bridge, over the space between.
If all teeth need replacement,
dentures have been used. While
bridges and dentures can do a good
job of replacing lost teeth, they have
certain disadvantages: placement
of a bridge necessitates crowning
the otherwise healthy surrounding
teeth, and the bridge itself places
physical stress on those teeth as
it depends on them for support.
Dentures can be uncomfortable and
make it difficult to eat some foods.
Why implants make sense
Dental implants can be used to replace a
single tooth or all of them. Dental implants
are a great solution for patients who have
dentures but dislike the discomfort, look,
and limited ability to eat some foods.
Implants look and feel like natural teeth,
allow patients to eat what they want, and
can often be completed in as little as one
day.
The case for laser assisted implants
• Quicker healing time following surgeries
• Less pain/ more comfortable procedure
• Laser can sterilize area lowering chance of infection
• Less or no need for sutures
Since the latter half of the 20th
century, a newer procedure has
grown in popularity, revolutionizing
the science of dental prosthesis and
improving the quality of life of
millions of patients. Dental implant
surgery, where a titanium post is
placed in the socket of the missing
tooth, offers improved aesthetics
and comfort and function over
the traditional bridge or denture
procedures. Because the titanium
implant fuses with the bone, it can
stop bone loss in the root area,
and since it goes directly into the
tooth socket, it does not affect
neighboring teeth or depend on
them for stability.
In addition, modern technology
makes it possible to match the
prosthesis to the existing teeth,
leading to improved appearance.
Dental implants can be used to
replace a single missing tooth,
multiple missing teeth, or even as a
more comfortable, more functional
alternative solution to dentures.
Advantages of laser
assisted dental implants
Recent advancements in dental
laser technology have now made
dental implants an even more
viable solution. Laser-assisted
dental implant surgery, can provide
better results, increased comfort
and shorter healing time. In spite
of significantly improved outcomes
from this new procedure, only
around five percent of dentists
currently take advantage of laserassisted dentistry.
The dentists at Apex Dental,
in Riverton, Draper and West
Jordan Utah, are among those with
experience and advanced training
using a dental laser to improve
the implant procedure as well as
other common dental surgeries or
treatments. Their dental hygienists
have also received additional
advanced laser training to improve
their patient’s oral hygiene.
According to Dr. John Kwant,
a dentist at Apex Family and
Cosmetic Dentistry, “Apex Dental
is committed to providing our
patients the safest, most advanced
procedures available anywhere,
which is why we proudly use
a state-of-the-art DEKA CO2
soft-tissue laser. Compared to a
dental implant performed with
traditional methods, the DEKA
laser-assisted procedure promotes
quicker healing, reduces the need
for anaesthesia, reduces damage
to surrounding tissue, minimizes
bleeding and swelling, reduces the
need for sutures, and may reduce
anxiety for our patients.”
There are many advantages of
the newer laser-assisted dental
implant surgery over the traditional
dental implant procedure, yet
currently at Apex Dental this
remarkable upgrade comes at no
extra cost. Patients interested in
dental implants, who come to one
of the Apex Dental locations before
January 31, 2013 can receive a
complimentary evaluation with one
of Apex’s doctors to see if dental
implants will benefit them.
If
implants are the right solution, laser
technology for the dental implants
will be provided at no additional
charge. If you are missing one
or more of your natural teeth, no
matter what age you are, laser
assisted dental implants may be
your best solution, and now may
be the best time to do it. If you
would like to find out if you are a
candidate for laser assisted dental
implants, please call Apex Family

Laser dentistry can be used on all ages to provide a more comfortable experience and improved results.
Before
After
1
Gummy smile (smile
design): Dental lasers
can be used to reshape
the gumline on patients
to expose more of the
tooth and improve the
cosmetic appearance of
a gummy smile.
2
Cold Sores and Canker Sores:
These conditions can be a painful thing to deal with. Traditionally,
few treatments were effective to treat
these uncomfortable sores. Now a
quick and comfortable laser application can provide increased comfort
and much quicker healing time. In
many cases, the area treated will not
develop a cold sore later on.
3
Gapped Teeth: Tissue connects
the lip to the gums and another
connects the tongue to the bottom of
the mouth. Sometimes these connective tissues are too restricting and can
result in gapped front teeth or speech
problems (tongue-tied). These patients
are often young, and laser technology
is a more comfortable, quicker procedure, often requiring no stitches.
4
Gingivitis/Periodontal Therapy: Gingivitis
and periodontal disease are a leading cause
of tooth loss, and it is estimated that 75% of the
adult population has gum disease of some form.
The American Heart Association recently came
out with studies showing gum disease is a precursor to heart disease. It can also lead to low birth
weight babies in pregnant women. Our dentists
and hygienists can use the DEKA laser to treat
gingivitis and help improve the health and appearance of your gums.
