Welcome to the 2016 Irving Summer Math Incentive: Splash into Math!
The purpose of this program is to give students an opportunity to practice and master
math skills they've learned in the past year. Our hope is to prepare them for academic
success in the fall.
Here is how it works … on our site you will find three tabs: Kindergarten & 1st grade, 2nd
& 3rd grade, and 4th & 5th grade. Your child should decide if they will work at the grade
level section they just completed or above. For credit, you may not work below your
grade level section. You also DO NOT have to work within the same grade level section
each week.
Within each grade level section you will find three subsections. The skills covered during
this program are number sense, operations, and geometry. Here is a quick overview of
each skill.
Number Sense: Students will work to understand numbers' values, relationships, and
patterns.
Operations: Students will work to master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division.
Geometry: Students will work to understand lines, 2D and 3D shapes, their properties and
relationships.
Students are expected to participate in this program for six weeks. At the end of the six
weeks, the participant should have completed two activities and submitted two quizzes for
Number Sense, two activities and submitted two quizzes for Operations, and two activities
and submitted two quizzes for Geometry.
We would like for students to work at their own pace and schedule and spread out the six
weeks as they see fit! Just be sure to complete one activity a week for six weeks. Be
sure to also complete and submit the corresponding quiz in order for participation to be
recorded. The Google form will automatically submit student responses, which will then be
recorded by the Math Committee!
All quizzes are due before Monday, August 29 th … the first day of school!
At the beginning, of the 2016-2017 school year, the Math Committee will celebrate with
the participants who COMPLETED all 6 quizzes of this year’s Summer Math Incentive! Once
again we will be celebrating with our ever-popular SPLASH PARTY! J
