twoofourseniorstudents,BernadetteDraayers
andManjotSandhuwhodidanoutstandingjob
leadingtheservice,ourcolourguardledbyguest
bagpiperMr.DavidsonandATSScadetsJazz
Hayer,VyomSanghavi,AmeyChawla,Vickram
Gill,andATMScadet,WilliamCroteau.Ourband
underthedirectionofMs.Sargentdidanamazing
jobintheirfirstpublicperformance.Iwasproud
ofourstudentsboththoseperformingandthose
listening.Itwasagreatmomentofrespectfor
thosewhohadsacrificedforusasCanadians.
ThereareseveralimportantdetailsIwouldlike
tocoverwithyou.First,Icertainlywantto
extendmysincerecondolencestoourcolleagues
atAbbotsfordSeniorintheverydifficulttimethat
theyhavegonethrough.Thisistheworst
possiblenightmareforusaseducatorsandfor
thoseofusresponsibleforourbuildings.
Ourthoughts,supportandprayersgotoour
colleagues,studentsandparentsofAbbySr.One
ofthequestionsIhavebeenaskedinthewakeof
thistragiceventishowsafeareourstudents.
Icanonlyassureyouthatourschoolsarevery
safe.Althoughnoonecanpredictoreven
possiblypreventsuchrandomtragicbehahviour,
hereatATSSIwouldliketopointoutseveral
thingsthatmakeourschooloneof,ifnotthe
safestinthedistrict.Wedohavetheadvantageof

allofourstudentswearinguniformsmakingany
intruder/strangereasytoquicklyspot.Wearea
smallschoolwhereallofourstudents,ifnot
knownbyname,wouldbeeasilyrecognizedby
staffagainmakingitharderforanunwanted
guesttoenterandprowlthroughourbuilding.
Ourteachersmakeitapracticetostandbytheir
doorwaysduringthechangeofclasseswhere
againanystrangercanbeeasilyspotted.Also,we
dolockourexteriordoorswiththeexceptionof
ourfrontmainentrythroughouttheday.And
finally,mostofourentrancesarecoveredby
videosurveillance.Again,thesemeasuresdonot
providearocksolidguaranteebutitgivesyou
someideaastohowwetakesecurityseriously
hereatATSS.
Asecondimportantpieceofinformationisthat
wewillnotbeproducingaterm1orterm3
reportcardasinthepast.However,wedohave
ourteachersallusingcheckmyprogressonline
markingprogramsothatyouasparentscan
accessanytimetoseewhattheprogressofyour
sonordaughteris.Pleasetakeadvantageofthis
opportunityastheinstructionsforhowtoaccess

Students who find themselves behind in their work or in need of extra time may soon be asked to take advantage of the opportunity to improve and succeed at our lunchtime Study Hall. Students can be referred by their classroom teachers to attend in room 236 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays during lunch to complete missing assignments, study for exams, work on projects, or receive basic extra assistance on work in progress.
