Using several different fabrics, cut 18 strips at 2-1/2”. Do not cut the 14”strips of background for the corner block nor the 8-1/2” strips for borders. Refer to Pg 3 alterations below.* Sew the strips together to create three strips sets, as directed, but plan your order of sewing so that all three strips sets are different. Cut and assemble center medallion as directed. *Pg 3 - Cutting Corner Blocks Instead of using background fabrics to cut Wedge C, B and A, cut these units from your scrappy fabric. BUT FIRST, cut rectangles needed for the outer borders. You will need 7 rectangles cut at 7-1/2” x 8-1/2” for each side of the quilt for a total of 28 rectangles. Now - continue with pg 3 - Cutting Corner Blocks. Since you need 8 wedges for each C, B and A and you are going for a scrappy look, approach cutting like this. For wedge C, cut 8 rectangles from 8 different fabrics that are 14” x 5-1/4”. Line up the ruler according to the directions on pg. 3 and cut one wedge from each rectangle. For wedge B, cut 8 rectangles from 8 different fabrics that are 11” x 5-1/4”. Follow pattern instructions for cutting these wedges. For wedge A, cut 8 rectangles from 8 different fabrics that are 9-3/4” x 5-1/4” and cut as directed. Assemble corner blocks as directed in the pattern. Pg 7: Border Strips. Sew seven of the 7-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles into a strip that measures 8-1/2”x 49-1/2”, Press seams open or to one side, if preferred. Make four strips in this manner. Use these strips as the “Outer Border” to finish the border assembly. Copyright, 2012, All Rights Reserved Erin Underwood’s designs are protected by the American Copyright Law.
