The consultants will visit the St. Mary’s County library branches to meet with the library staff and other key stakeholders, meet with the Board and Search Committee, tour the library, and tour the community in mid-June. Joan Springer, President of the Board of Library Trustees stated “It is going to be a tremendous job finding someone who will qualify for the Directors position. The St. Mary' County library system has been a front runner in library services throughout Maryland and this is due to Kathleen's contribution to the growth and advancement of library services.” Ms. Reif joined the St. Mary’s County Library as Director in 2003. Prior to taking the helm at St. Mary’s County Library, Ms. Reif was the Director of the Wicomico County Free Library from 1995 to 2003, the Marketing and Program Coordinator at the Baltimore County Public Library from 1986 to 1995, and a Children’s Librarian and Branch Manager at Harford County Library from 1975 to 1985. The study by Davenport Public Finance, a firm which provides financial and underwriting services to the public as well as for not for profit issuers in the Mid-Atlantic region, including St. Mary’s County, gave MetCom a positive report. The Davenport study compared MetCom customer costs favorably against similarly sized peers across the United States. The details examined in the financial and debt profile of MetCom costs were based these key points: outstanding long term debt per customer, annual combined customer bill versus median household income, operating margins, debt service coverage, and cash liquidity. MetCom scored well in each of these areas and Davenport commented that MetCom’s debt profile was strong, in part due to its “strong operations and management.” Further strengthening the findings demonstrating MetCom’s solid debt profile, is that its customer base is smaller than comparable peer utilities resulting in lower customer costs even though those total costs are distributed among fewer rate payers. Davenport concluded that MetCom operates “at a level consistent with a solid AA rated Utility Enterprise Operation.” Further, due to MetCom’s “strong financial, management and debt track record,” the utility has the capability to explore potentially more efficient and flexible financing mechanisms as well as possibly issuing standalone bonds to finance projects. The Executive Summary for MetCom begins on page four of the study, which can be accessed at http://www. boarddocs.com/md/stmarysco/Board.nsf/files/9VK4E364513E/$file/St%20Marys%20-%20MetCom%20Debt%20 Study%20-%20%20Final_1%204-21-2015.pdf. Art Blooms: Fabulous Floral Fantasies Weekend Exhibit Featuring More Than 25 Floral Designers Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons is excited to announce the Art Blooms: Fabulous Floral Fantasies exhibit that will be open for just two days, July 18th and 19th from 10am to 5pm each day. Admission to the exhibit is FREE. Art Blooms is a weekend exhibit held in the Dennis Murray Arts Building, featuring the work of more than 25 floral designers from across the region. Each floral designer is assigned a work of art currently in the Main and Mezzanine Galleries and is invited to create a floral arrangement inspired by that work of art. The designers are asked to draw inspiration from two exhibits this year. The first exhibit, Cosmos: Imagining the Universe, captures how artists render the work of scientists, authors, explorers, astronomers, cartoonists, Trekkies, LARPers, astrologers, and philosophers. This exhibit embraces not only what science has revealed about space, but what humans have imagined about the cosmos. The second exhibit, Heroes & Villains: Exploring Archetypes Through Art, celebrates the complexities and nuances of heroes and villains that populate history, literature, popular culture, folklore, mythology, psychology, and other realms of human experience and expression. The resulting floral arrangement beautiful, and provocative and Ours is a standard of independence, perseverance and the ability not to be missed. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, military and students and $13 for children 12 and under (the show is not recommended for young children as it is bawdy but never vulgar). On Thursdays, all tickets are $13. For tickets, visit www.newtowneplayers.org or call (301) 737-5447. Three Notch Theatre is located at 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park, Md. Broadway’s greatest musical farce, which was highly successful on Broadway in 1962 and again in 1996, is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest shows ever written. It takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from the time-tested 2,000-year-old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville set to a score by famed composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The story by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart centers on Pseudolus (Zeke Poiro) who will do anything to win his freedom – including prying the young courtesan Philia (Lauren Drewello) from “buyer and seller of the flesh of beautiful women” Marcus Lycus (Dawn Weber) and the great warrior Miles Gloriosus (Mike Cahall) to whom she is promised. Why? Because his young master Hero (Jacob Lejeune) has fallen in love with Philia on first sight and has promised Pseudolus his freedom if he can succeed in the task. And Pseudolus is off on his mission in a forest of schemes, plots, lies and bargains that involve a nervous slave (J.R. Cook as Hysterium), Hero’s father (Steve Fogle as Senex) and mother (Jean Louise as Domina), a nearly-blind old man (Joe Bowes as Erronius), five courtesans (Jessany Fogle, Chris Joyce, Stacey Mulrooney, Vicki Powalisz and Kathleen Weber) and three Proteans (Tim Joyce, Maddie Oosterink and Sean Scriber) who fill various roles “doing the work of 30.” Director Michelle Ebert Freire “couldn’t be more pleased with this cast. They range in age from 17 to almost 80, and they are a bunch of clowns. This is a high-energy show, and we certainly have the right group of actors to pull it off.” They are, in one case, unconventional in that “Marcus Lycus” is played by a woman. “I chose in advance to cast a female in the role of Lycus,” said Freire. “There are so many awesome male roles in Forum and only two principal female roles. I thought Lycus, the courtesan seller, would work great as a ‘madam,’ adding some maternal sexiness to the play.” She continued, “The performers in this show get a real workout. In addition to the songs, dances and riotous chase scene, folks are walking on their hands, doing flips and cartwheels, jumping into each other’s arms, leaping from balconies and spinning themselves silly. We have a lot of sweaty actors at the end of rehearsal.” Filling out the show’s creative team are Jenny Carnahan (producer) Diane Trautman (musical director), Krystal McCoy (choreographer) and Kristen Kaiser and Lauren Woehrer (stage managers). 13 CHAMBER UPDATE, July 2015 Diane Harding Named Commercial Lender with Community Bank of the Chesapeake Community Bank of the Chesapeake has announced the appointment of Diane Harding to Commercial Loan Officer with Community Bank of the Chesapeake.
