Course Structure, Evaluation, and Grading Methods Course Learning Content Please review the assignment checksheet for a breakdown of course assignments and points. Read and Outline Chapter- Part of being an online student is being self-motivated to learn on your own. You spent spent more than $100 on a book, you should read it. You can either submit an outline or a concept map. Discussion Board- There are several discussion board assignments that go with each section. LearnSmart- A flashcard type of assignment that is completed through connect using the virtual book and is designed to help you recall information learned from your textbook. This assignment is best completed after reading and outlining the associated chapter. Chapter Quizzes- Are interactive-type questions that help you recall information learned from your chapter and will help prepare you for exams. Animation Quizzes- Consist of a video cartooning important topics covered in the assigned chapter. Periodically the video will pause and ask you to answer a question associated with its content. Concept Map- Are file attachment type assignments where you will link and describe vocabulary words from the assigned chapter. I have a video posted in the blackboard shell (under videos) for more information. 2 Hazard Community and Technical College Course Syllabus Mini Topic- Are file attachment type assignments where you will choose one topic from the assigned chapter to do additional research on. I recommend choosing a topic you are having difficulty understanding or that you find particularly interesting. You should use a minimum of three scientific references and 500 word count. Please use APA format, I have a quickguide posted regarding APA format and general essay writing in the resources on blackboard. Final Paper- Is completed in several steps. You will choose a topic of interest from the content within the second half of your book. You will submit your topic, create an outline, and turn in two rough drafts before your final paper is due. The final product will be a minimum of 6 pages with seven scientific references in APA format. Vaccine Controversy- Read the material posted in Chapter 28 ‘What Plants Talk About’. Pretend you are in charge of creating a one paragraph youtube description of the video that is designed to grab attention and boost the number of video views while being informative. Next, Create a list of 20 questions with answers from different segments of the video. Exams- There are 6 multiple choice exams with 60 questions to be completed in 50 minutes. The short time is to discourage use of internet resources or open-book completion. Each exam should be completed after finishing the course homework assigned for that exam. The exams are cumulative. Exam 1 covers the first section of three chapters, exam two covers the first two sections, and so on. Final- It is the student’s responsibility to contact their preferred testing center information and work collaboratively with their chosen testing center to set up a time and date to take the closedresource exam. Students need to forward me with their testing center time and date recipt and must take the initiative to contact me with this information 10 business days before their intended test date will forefit the chance to take the final which is worth approximately 15% of the grade. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the exam on or before the exam due date. This exam will be a 100 questions, multiple choice, computerized, and content-based with a two-hour time limit. To Unlock Learning Content you must complete the syllabus agreement quiz within the first three days of class otherwise you will be reported as a no-show and may be subsequently removed or withdrawn from the course without the option to re-enroll.
