Inspiring
Inspire-Aspire Awards
H. Forman & Son, Stratford, London
Wednesday 11th July 2012
Awards Presented by:
Derek Redmond
Dame Tessa Jowell MP
Awards Presented by
Derek Redmond
Derek is one of Britain’s greatest ever
400m Olympic athletes. His career
brought gold medals at Olympic, World,
European and Commonwealth levels.
Derek also had more than his fair share of
bad luck and heartache, most famously
during the Barcelona Olympics when his
hamstring snapped during the semi finals.
Derek, a medal favourite, struggled to his
feet and hobbled the remaining 250 metres
in a scene that has become one of the most
enduring in modern Olympic history.
Dame Tessa Jowell MP
David Lorimer
Tessa is the MP for Dulwich and
West Norwood. Formerly a
member of both the Blair and
Brown Cabinets, she is currently
the Shadow Minister for the
Olympics and Shadow Minister
for London. Tessa played a key
role in bringing the Olympics to
London
during her time in
Government which included
spells as Minister of State to the
Department of Health, Minister
of State to the Department of
Education and Employment and
Secretary of State for Culture,
Media and Sport.
David is Chief Executive of
Character Education Scotland and
creator of the Inspire-Aspire
Awards
having
originally
developed the format in 2006.
Since then the awards programme
has gone from strength to
strength
reaching
many
thousands of young people in
schools across the UK and further
afield. David was Scottish and
British
Universities
3000m
Steeplechase Champion in 1972
before going on to developing his
career as a writer, lecturer, editor
and educationalist.

What will happen to the Athlete’s
Village after London 2012?
East Village: London’s new
neighbourhood that breaks the
mould for UK residential
developments
and
directly
responds to the capital’s critical
need for new housing.
The first legacy neighbourhood for
London, situated on the doorstep of
The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is
- East Village, London E20 - and will
be ready for residents to move into in
2013.
East Village offers residents:
 A choice of apartments and
townhouses, all uniquely designed
 Tree lined streets, open parkland,
private courtyard gardens and
wetlands
 The buzz of over 30 local shops, cafes
and restaurants
 A world-class education campus,
Chobham Academy
This exciting new neighbourhood will
initially deliver 2,818 new homes. In
addition to 1,439 private homes mainly
available to rent, there will be 1,379
affordable homes offering the choice
of buying or renting to people with a
range of income levels.
 A state-of-the-art Medical Centre
 Europe’s largest shopping centre,
Westfield, Stratford City
 Endless leisure facilities in the
Olympic Park and beyond
Combining inspiring design by a
number of the world’s leading
architects, East Village will provide
more accessibility, space, stability,
security and world-class facilities than
any
other
London
residential
development.
Home to over 6,000 Londoners in a
space equivalent to St James’s Park
and unlike any other residential
development in London, East Village
will combine the vibrancy of city
living with un-rivalled outdoor space
and world-class facilities.
Residents moving into this new
neighbourhood will enjoy living in one
of the capital’s best-connected areas.
Canary Wharf can be reached in 12
minutes, the West End in 20 minutes
and St Pancras International in just 6
minutes.
For
the
frequent
international traveller, all London
airports can be reached within the
hour.
“Seeing young people inspired
by the Olympic Games is a
wonderful thing but more
than that, I myself have been
inspired by the young people by their work, their vision,
their creativity, their
enthusiasm - they have shown
how to be inspirational
people themselves”
