175 Years of John Deere.
2
012 marks the 175th Anniversary of John Deere, the company that
carries the name of its founder.
Back in 1837 John Deere moved from his home in Vermont to start a small
Blacksmiths shop in Grand Detour, Illinois. He became famous for the first self
scouring plough, an idea he developed from watching his mother, a
seamstress. He watched how she shined her needles so they passed through
fabric with ease. He took this idea to his plough and with a shiny board the
soil would fall away from the plough. His saying ‘I will never put my name on
a product that does not have in it the best that is in me’ is something that the
company still lives by today.
By 1841, Deere was producing 100 of the ploughs annually. In 1843, he
entered a partnership with Leonard Andrus to produce more ploughs to meet
increasing demand. This partnership was dissolved a few years later.
In 1858, Deere transferred leadership of the company to his son, Charles,
who served as its vice president. John Deere retained the title of president of
the company, but now turned his attention to civic and political activities.
By 1912 the ‘Modern’ Deere Company emerged, with 11 factories in the US
and 1 in Canada. Products now included hay equipment, drills, wagons and
planters. This was also the year that ‘Harvester Works’ was opened in Moline
– today this is one of the largest and most modern facilities in the world.

WANT TO SAVE MONEY ON INSURANCE?
BLOCK STEM! BLOCKS THEFT!
It is estimated that a value of 1.5 million pounds of agricultural and plant machinery is
stolen every week. Is it any wonder our insurance premiums keep going through the
roof?
The Block Stem, when fitted to the vehicles steering ram, makes it impossible to move
the vehicle other than in a circle. Made of C40 steel with hardener it is an extremely
robust device that has passed the extensive tests performed by Thatcham and has
been certified by them.
NFU Mutual recognise the anti theft qualities of the Block Stem device, as demonstrated by the Thatcham category P3 approval.
Based on this, NFU Mutual are able to offer discounted insurance premiums - discounts will vary depending on individual
circumstances.
The Block Stem System has been demonstrated to comply with The British Insurance Industry’s Criteria for Plant & Agriculture
Issue 1 and is classified as Category P 3 TEP1-8/0411

SERVICE NEWS
Please welcome a new member of our Support team
We are very pleased to announce that Chris Dale has joined the service team based at
Nantwich. Chris first started work for a local contractor, operating all types of equipment,
for 17 years before wanting a change. He then served 10 years diagnosing and repairing
HGVs before moving to Gunn JCB. Chris has been enrolled on the industry recognised LTA
scheme and will be trained both in house and at our main suppliers to further build his
product knowledge and strengthen our service support team.
New Dynamometer
To show our continued commitment and support to our customers we have invested in
a state of art Sigma 5 dynamometer. This new machine is based at Bispham Green and
is capable of testing tractors from 13HP up to 500HP.
We can carry out a full auto test which allows us to run a consistent test across the full
power curve, or we can test in manual mode, where we can apply and remove load by
the press of a button. The test results can be printed out.
The solid-state design of the load control and method of measuring, means that
recalibration is virtually eliminated and accuracy is guaranteed.
With the arrival of our new dynamometer we are offering a FREE DYNO TEST and report
print out with every major service booked in and carried out in either of our workshops in June this year.
Datatag - Security
Datatag makes your vehicles identifiable to the police in such a way that it is virtually
impossible for a thief to defeat. Stealing your equipment, therefore, becomes risky and so
the criminal tends to move on. The CESAR Datatag scheme has been tested and approved
by the British Insurance test house, Thatcham.
If you would like to reduce the risk of your machinery being stolen as well as the
implications of being without your equipment - then please contact your local service
department.
Please remember as well as piece of mind, many insurance companies offer a discount for customers who have Datatag
fitted to their equipment.

ISLE OF MAN NEWS
Last month a group of customers from the Isle of Man joined a group of
customers from Cheshire and Lancashire to visit Vaderstad in Sweden. Whilst
there the group spent a very enjoyable two days visiting the factory where most
of Vaderstads range of drills and cultivation equipment are made. We had
extensive field demonstrations and an interesting visit to the Kimme Quarry
where Vaderstad test their machines on a 400m stone track.
The trip demonstrates the close working relationship with our suppliers to
provide not only machines and parts to our customers, both in the UK and the
Isle of Man, but a continued commitment to build on those relationships and
increase understanding of what goes on behind the leaflets!!

Along with our team on the Isle of Man, we will again be attending the TWO
agricultural shows on the island this summer. We always have a great response
to our visits to the Isle of Man, but as in past years if there is a new / demo
machine that anybody has an interest in please contact either Dusty, Eddie or
Matty so that we can effectively plan which stock to bring over (IF WE DON’T
KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE WE CAN NOT BRING IT!!)
PHIL CONVERTS TO GREEN
Pictured is Phil Hodgson of W Hodgson and Sons, Rushton, Tarporley. On 1st
March 2012, Phil took delivery of his new John Deere 6830 standard cab tractor
with TLS. It is the Hodgson family’s first John Deere from Agricultural Machinery,
and the decision to buy green was not taken lightly.
Phil said “having had very good service from another manufacturer for a great
number of years, we were offered the chance of a demonstration through Chris
Nield, from Agricultural Machinery, Nantwich. We found that the product was very
much to our liking and helped us make the decision to change when the time
came to replace our oldest serving tractor. We have been very pleased with our
decision.”

George and Carol Baillie run a family farm close to our Bispham Green depot. Together with
their four sons, they have a herd of around 650 cattle, including 200 milk cows, and farm
nearly 500 acres of land. Confident with the performance and reliability provided, the Baillie
family have been using John Deere machinery and equipment for 3 generations. They are
set to continue into the future with the recent delivery of one of the first John Deere 6210R
tractors, along with John Deere triple mower unit.
Having recently used the triple mowers for the first time, George has been very impressed
with the quality, finish and performance of both the tractor and the mower. George found
that “the triple mower combination is very smooth to use. My output has increased by 50%
and with the current fuel prices, running three mowers is definitely more cost effective”

It is that time of the year once
again…the grass has grown (in most
places) and people are underway
with first cut silage.
We normally carry our own
demo/standby machine for the
season and this year is no exception.
This year we are running a John
Deere 7450 with Prodrive and
AutoTrac.
Pictured is our sales rep and Harvest
Specialist Mathew Evans with the
7450. As soon as the smell of
freshly mown grass hit him, he just
had to break it out!
If you are considering purchasing a new or used SPFH – either call Mathew or your
local rep for some assistance.

Spanish beauty wants to get hitched.
My name is Tenias, From spain I did sail.
For a good stay in Knutsford, I’d never seen hail.
I was once connected, to a big John Deere.
But they took me off, and brought me here.
My joystick has been handled, by only one pair of
hands.
And all my work has been, on the same Cheshire
lands.
All my brackets and pipes, are laid by my side.
I’m at the Bispham depot, if you fancy a ride.
You cant miss me, as my colour is yellow.
And if you scoop me up, you’ll be a happy fellow
