their programmes; a platform
wherein the knowledge and
experiences get pooled and readily disseminated. Thankfully, a new breed of
social entrepreneurs is emerging to meet the challenges of the society.
Inaugural Address by Mr. Arun Kumar, Vice President (HR), Hindalco Industries.
Social entrepreneurship is the process of bringing about social change on a major
scale. Social entrepreneurs function as the agents of change, questioning the
status quo, grabbing the new yet overlooked opportunities, and changing the
world for the better. A social entrepreneur is able to convert a gap or an
opportunity into a business venture with primary focus on social welfare rather
than profits.
The present seminar aimed to promote and accelerate the development of social
entrepreneurship in India. It was set to enable the formation of a platform for
exchange of ideas among enterprising individuals who are committed to the cause
of bringing positive change. There were guest lectures by established social
entrepreneurs from different parts of the country.
The Proceedings….
The Seminar progressed in four technical sessions. The inaugural session was
scheduled at 10.30 AM on 1st of March 2009. The session started with 'Kulgeet” the BHU anthem reiterating that this University is acknowledged as Capital of
Knowledge across the world. Prof. Deepak Barman, Dean, Faculty of Management
Studies welcomed the distinguished guests and participants in the Seminar.
Prof. H.C. Chaudhary, Coordinator, DRS I SAP (UGC) & Seminar Director,
Faculty of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University shared about the
relevance of the seminar and detailed on further proceedings in the Seminar.
Citing the example of the life and mission of Pd. Madan Mohan Malviya Ji, Prof.
Chaudhary remarked that social entrepreneurs are change makers without any
profit motive and by increasing social entrepreneurial activities, we can contribute
towards socio-economic development of the society as a whole.
Mr. Arun Kumar, Vice President, Hindalco Industries Ltd., Renukoot was the
Chief Guest in the Inaugural Session. Delivering the inaugural address, Mr. Arun
Kumar reiterated the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility. Very few
people are getting advantage of economic growth and still today 22% of the
population doesn't get even 1 square meal. Mr. Arun Kumar suggested everybody
who are in a position to give back something to the society should act. He also
motivated the younger generation to devote some time and work for not so
privileged people of this country and the world. Prof. P.S. Tripathi, Coordinator

ho nisar, kisi ka dard mil sake to le utha, kisi ke vaaste ho tere dil me pyar”. He
