Your class is planning a holiday party. Your teacher is going to order pizzas as part of the celebration. Each pizza is cut into ten slices. In order to get an accurate count for your
teacher, complete the following steps:
As a whole group, each student needs to decide how many slices of pizza he/she would like to have (no more than 3 per student)
Record the number of slices per student in fraction form. For example, 2 slices = 2/10. Record results on a chart as a whole group.
As a whole group, add up all the individual fractions, which will create an improper fraction.
Convert the improper fraction to a mixed number. Simplify where needed .Use this data to determine how many total pizzas will be needed for the celebration.
Repeat this process as a class, this time using decimal format. For example, 2 slices= 0.2.
Record results on a chart as a whole group.
Add up all the individual decimals. Use this data to determine how many total pizzas will be needed for the celebration.
Compare the fraction results and the decimal results to confirm accuracy.
