YARD WASTE SITE 15 SOUTH SMITH STREET HOURS OF OPERATION: 2016 YARD WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE th Residents of the 4 Taxing District MUST have their Yard Waste curbside on the MONDAY of the scheduled week of pickup, as the truck will pass by only once during that week. Once the truck passes it will NOT return until the 2nd scheduled collection (Fall ONLY). Yard Waste pickup schedule is as follows: May 2 - 6: May 9 - 13: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes Thursday and Friday routes November 7 - 11: November 14 - 18: Nov 28 - Dec 2: December 5 - 9: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes Thursday and Friday routes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes Thursday and Friday routes 2016 YARD WASTE COLLECTION GUIDELINES Leaves, brush and grass clippings are on Connecticut’s list of mandatory recycling items. DO NOT MIX THESE ITEMS WITH GARBAGE. The City of Norwalk encourages you to compost at home and mulch your grass clippings into your lawn. Yard waste collection guidelines are as follows: 1. Curbside by 6 AM on the MONDAY of your listed yard waste collection week. 2. Yard waste will be collected ONLY in brown paper leaf bags, garbage cans with no lids, or open-top cardboard boxes. 3. Plastic bags, loose piles of brush and leaves, rocks, soil, and sand WILL NOT BE COLLECTED. 4. Brush must be less than 4 feet in length and 6 inches or less in diameter. It must be tied up in bundles, no heavier than 50 lbs. 5. There is a 25-pound weight limit for bags and a 50-pound limit for cans – Please do not overload bags and cans. 6. Logs and stumps WILL NOT BE COLLECTED. They can be brought to the yard waste site located at 15 South Smith Street. 7. If you believe you are missed for a yard waste pickup, please call Customer Service on Monday of the following week. Winter (December 21, 2015 to April 2, 2016) Wednesday: 7:30 AM – 3:00PM Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Saturday and Sunday: CLOSED CLOSED for the season and Site will be open on Wednesdays subject to weather and at the discretion of the Department of Public Works. Spring/Summer/Fall (April 4, 2016 to Dec. 23, 2016) Monday – Friday: 7:30AM – 3:00PM Saturday: 7:30AM – 2:00PM Sunday: CLOSED Scale Closed For Lunch: Approx. 12:00PM – 12:30PM (M-F) Drop-off Site Guidelines 1. Yard waste may be brought loose or bagged 2. All containers - except brown paper leaf bags – MUST BE EMPTIED AND REMOVED. 3. All passenger vehicles must display a Norwalk Resident Pass. 4. Trucks, pickups, vans, and vehicles pulling trailers require a residential permit or commercial disposal license and registration for regular use of the transfer station or yard waste site. Trucks, pickups, vans and vehicles with trailers will be weighed at all times. For residents there is a minimum charge of $20 for each use if the vehicle has no residential permit; Please see the DPW Fee Schedule for Leaves, Brush, Logs and Stumps. 5. Residential permit and Commercial license/registration applications are available at the Transfer Station, 61 Crescent Street, Norwalk. 6. Anyone caught dumping without proper permits or when the Site is closed, will be fined and may lose dumping privileges. 2017 Christmas Tree Collection NO PLASTIC BAGS OR DECORATIONS. 1. Trees will be collected twice during the month of January 2017, the weeks of January 9 – 13 and January 23 – 27. 2. Have trees curbside by 6 AM on the MONDAY of the above collection weeks. th 3.
