8.1 Geometric Mean
Objecve:
1. You will find the geometric mean between two numbers.
2. You will be able to solve problems involving relaonships between parts of a right triangle and the altude to its hypotenuse.
If the altude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right triangle, then the 2 ∆s formed are similar to the original ∆ and to each other.
∆ABC ~ ∆BDC ~ ∆ADB
Using Geometric Mean:
AD = AB
AB AC
DC = BC
BC AC
AD = BD
BD DC
