ResearchintheMechanismsofDisinhibition(MoD)labutilizesinterdisciplinarytheoretical
principlesandmethods(e.g.,electrophysiology,neuroimaging,self-report)todistinguish
thedeficitsassociatedwithantisocialbehaviorinordertoimprovetheidentificationof
theseindividualswhoengageinchronicantisocialbehavioranddevelopinnovativepersonspecificinterventions.OnecomponentofresearchintheMoDlabistoidentifyandspecify
theneuralmechanismsassociatedwithpsychopathy.Iworkonseveralprojectsrelatedto
ourfocusonpsychopathy.Morespecifically,I’veexaminedEEGdata(e.g.,minimum
spanningtreeanalysis,timefrequencyanalysis)usingBrainWaveandMatlabtoidentify
neuralcommunicationandattentionprocessinginpsychopathy.Additionally,Iaminvolved

ResearchunderthedirectionofDr.Zinktakesadvantageofadvancesinhumangenetics
andneuroimagingtechniquestogainamorecompleteunderstandingofthecomplex
neuralcircuitryunderlyingdistinctcognitiveprocessesrelatedtoindividualsymptomsof
schizophreniaandautism.Asaresearchassociate,Iworkedontwoprojects.First,wasa
projectthatexaminedtheeffectsofintranasallyadministeredoxytocinandvasopressinon
theneuralresponsetosocialeyegazecuesinneurotypicalcontrols.Second,wasaproject
thatusedtwonovelvariantsoftheMonetaryIncentiveDelayfMRIparadigmtodetermine
theventralstriatum’s(alimbicstructurewhichhasalongassociationwithrewardpredictingcues)roleinmotivation,disentangledfromrewardprocessing(whichisintactin
schizophrenia).Onbothprojects,IwroteandeditedMatlabscriptsforanalysisofthe
behavioralandfMRIdata,developedapreprocessingpipelineforfMRIdatausingSPM8and
Matlabscripts,andwasinvolvedinanalysisanddisseminationofthedata.Lastly,Ihelped
otherlabmemberslearnMatlabandSPM8andassistedinpilotingnewfMRIparadigmsat
thescanner.

ResearchwithinDr.Dimitropoulos’NeurodevelopmentalResearchLabutilizesgenetics,
neuroimagingtechniques,andbehavioralparadigmstoexaminethecognitiveandsocial
deficitsofindividualswithdevelopmentaldisorders,suchasPrader-WilliSyndromeand
AutismSpectrumDisorder.AsaresearchassistantinthislabIwasinvolvedaprojectthat
utilizedanfMRIfacialprocessingparadigmtoexaminesocialprocessinginindividualswith
Prader-WilliSyndromecontrastedagainstindividualswithAutismSpectrumDisorderand
healthycontrols.ForthisprojectIwasresponsiblefortheanalysisanddisseminationofthe
data.

networkassociatedwithsocialcognitionandinternallydirectedattention).Duringmy
timeinthislab,IranaprojectrelatedtothisDefaultModeNetworkresearch.Specifically,
IcompletedanActivationLikelihoodEstimation(ALE)basedmeta-analysisofneuroimaging
datatoidentifyandclassifyregionsoffunctionalspecializationwithintheDefaultMode
Network.Forthisproject,Iperformedtheinitialliteraturesearchanddatacollection,
developedandtrainedlabmembersonadataclassificationsystem,processedand
analyzedthedatausingGingerALEandCaret,anddisseminatedthedata.Additionally,
duringmytimeinthislab,IassistedinfMRIdatacollectionforvariousotherprojects.
