Newsletter from St Ann’s Heath Issue 16 – 9th June 2017 A Note from Mrs King….... Hope you all had a lovely half term. I can’t believe we are into the last half term of this academic year. This half term is always a busy one with lots going on FOSAH Family BBQ, Yr 6 residential next week, Honk summer production and of course our annual sports day on 19th July. The children continue to work hard in class across all areas of the curriculum and we look forward to seeing you on Monday, 17th July for our Family Open Evening to celebrate the work that has been done. Governor update As a school we strive for a calm, happy and purposeful atmosphere all the time but especially during SATs week and for the internal assessments. Well done to everyone, all these went very smoothly which means that the children would have had the best opportunity to show their learning. Governors met just before half term to discuss termly business and the preparations for September at school and governance level. Our Vision and Ethos committee members had been into school recently to invite pupil views on several topics including the curriculum, the new Co-Headteacher model, behaviour, the reward systems, and transition between schools. There were some lovely insights, some helpful comments and observations, and an overwhelming positive feeling coming across from pupils in all year groups. These discussions are an important way for governors to understand school life by experiencing it directly – we aim to stay close to the school so that we are able to do the best to support pupils, staff and the whole school community. Summer fun is in the air with FOSAH BBQ, Open Evening, Sports Day and HONK production coming soon, and governors will be joining in with these great events. We look forward to meeting many of you there, and would like to thank everyone involved in organising these events which are joyous celebrations in our school calendar as well as raising much needed funds for the school. Helen Syms Chair of Governors, on behalf of your Governing Body FOSAH will be selling ice creams after school every Friday (weather permitting) until the end of term. They will be available under the shade sails from 3.10pm onwards. LET THE SUMMER COMMENCE! NSPCC Fundraising The NSPCC visited our school on Monday of this week and delivered an assembly to the whole school entitled ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’. They are back tomorrow working with both Years 5 and 6 children throughout the day. To support the worthwhile work they do with children, we are holding a sponsored maths quiz next Wednesday 14th (Monday 19th for Year 6 children) and would really appreciate your help in the form of sponsorship for this event. Your child should have brought home information in the form of a letter and a sponsorship form this week. They need to look through the maths themed questions, collect some sponsors, complete their maths quiz next week and then bring sponsorship money in by Wednesday 21st June. We will send out a reminder nearer the time. Thanks in advance for your support. Golden Boot Challenge For the next four Fridays, we are participating in the Golden Boot competition to see if we can try out ‘Greener’ ways to travel to school. Knowing that our school’s location isn’t ideal for a lot of people to walk or cycle to school, perhaps try to park and stride by parking at The Rose and Crown and walking the last way by foot, or even car share with another family to reduce the number of cars coming onto the school site. We are looking for a lunchtime supervisor to work in our school 5 days a week - term time only - 12noon until 1.15pm.
