Carveth Residents Were Up To the Challenge

Carveth Residents Were Up To the Challenge
In early June of this year, our volunteers who take kitties for visits with residents at Carveth Care Centre
presented our friends at Carveth with a challenge. Our GDHS shelter just took in an abandoned pregnant
female kitty which we named Caroline and we didn’t know when she will give birth and to how many.
The challenge we presented was to guess; the date when Caroline will give birth, how many kittens and
what gender the new family will have. Also, they were tasked to name each of the newborn kittens.
With big smiles our friends stepped up to the task. They immediately started planning. After all, Caroline
did not come with any records so we had no idea when she will give birth. In no time, the wheels went
into motion. We provided updates on Caroline progress including her picture. She was growing bigger
and bigger.
Than the big day came. When the volunteers arrived at the shelter early morning on June 26 th, Caroline
had already given birth to 7 beautiful kittens. Instead of the soft bed that was prepared for her the night
before, Caroline neatly placed all her siblings in a clean litter box (see below) that was also placed in her
shelter.

Our volunteers at the shelter were ecstatic. We finally could share pictures of the baby kittens with our
friends at Carveth. After all, Caroline and her kittens now have an extended family at Carveth. We were
also anxious to hear the results of our friends planning. Would they guess the date and number of
kittens let alone the gender? To our surprise, the residents correctly guessed the date, number of boys
and girls and they even came up with fantastic names that simply fit the character of the little kittens.
Congratulations to all residents and volunteers who took part in this challenge!!! To prove that our
friends did get all the facts correctly, here is a picture of the poster that was placed at the center well in
advance of the kitten’s arrival.
The residents proudly displayed their challenge results on a large poster at their residence.

Well, we couldn’t stop there. After all this was a very happy and emotional challenge. We had to arrange
a meeting for Caroline and her baby kittens to meet their extended family. On August 18th when the
newborns were almost 8 weeks young and ready to travel, we brought Caroline and her babies to
Carveth to meet their extended family. We wanted to keep this meeting a surprise and only few the
staff knew that we were bringing the entire family of 8 for a visit.
When the door of the large carrier was opened and the little ones reluctantly walked out one by one,
the smiles on the residents were priceless. They could light up the room. The shy little kittens slowly
approached the residents. Everyone in the room was emotionally touched. For the little ones, this was
their first visit outside of the shelter and even outside of their nursery room. Caroline was proud to
share her kittens with everyone in the room. She proudly displayed to everyone and she was as gracious
as she could be. The residents fell instantly in love with their little visitors. They held them, petted them
and just held them close. This meeting was made to be and we were glad that we could help make it
happen. These few pictures say it all. No words could describe the visit better.

And how can you not smile at this precious face.
These little kittens and Caroline, touched many hearts. This visit flew by very quickly but the fond
memories that were created will last forever. One of the staff members fell in love with little Oscar
(picture below) and promised to adopt him. We are extremely happy for both the new parents and
Oscar. We just need to give little Oscar a few more weeks to grow a bit bigger and get him ready for his
new forever home. We wish both the new family and Oscar endless happiness.
Here is the rest of Caroline’s family and Caroline. These sweet faces are now looking for their forever
homes. Our friends at Carveth will be very grateful if you help us find forever homes for Caroline and her
babies.
Here are they now as cute as they were born and almost ready for adoption
Here is the proud mom Caroline during her nursing time. She is the most affectionate kitty you will ever
meet. She gives her little heart to anyone who will give her some attention. She will make a very warm
companion to anyone who will give her a chance.
Caroline has done her job. She gave birth to seven healthy and beautiful kittens and she nursed and
cared for them until they were ready to stand on their own. Now Caroline deserve a chance to have a
forever home herself. Just like her little kittens, she is beautiful inside and out. She is a small petite
young lady of about 2 ½ years. Judging by her warm and friendly character, she was someone’s pet
abandoned and left to fend for herself while pregnant. Not a nice experience for anyone and especially
for a helpless expecting kitty like Caroline.
Human caused cruelty to animals like this happens more frequently than most people realize. However,
with the devotion of our volunteers and their love for the animals, give kitties like Caroline a chance to
have a new beginning and a life they so rightfully deserve. Fending for herself in the open outdoors
while expecting, Caroline and her kitties’ story would not have turned out like this. There is still much
work to do. Our shelter still needs to find homes for these beautiful kitties and many more that reside in
our shelter.
Caroline did her job extremely well and now deserves a chance. Would you give this sweet young lady a
forever home? She will shower you with affection and unconditionally will give you everything she has.
