ORDER OF AHEPA SPEEDWAY CHAPTER 410 June 10th, 2016 Dear Friends, PRESIDENT Tom Stratis VICE PRESIDENT Athas Kometas DMD SECRETARY Tasos Lyrintzis PhD TREASURER Pete Klironomos CHAPLAIN John Alexander Our local AHEPA Speedway Chapter # 410, once again, requests your genuine consideration in support of the AHEPA New Smyrna Memorial, Inc. foundation, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity initiated to both honor and care for the New Smyrna Odyssey Memorial located in New Smyrna Beach’s Riverfront Park. The New Smyrna Odyssey Memorial was initially erected and dedicated as an AHEPA “National Project” in 2004, to honor the first Greek, Italian and Minorcan settlers that came to North America in 1768. The “New Smyrna Odyssey Memorial Monument” itself, is revered by the Greek heritage as our culture’s version of the “Plymouth Rock” symbolizing our initial colonists’ search of a better life and prosperity in America. Our name, “AHEPA”, is an acronym that stands for the “American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association” whose mission foots upon promoting 5 basic principles of our Greek culture. John Alexander, Secretary Ted Baledes, Treasurer Education, by championing better learning opportunities for our community’s youth through the AHEPA Scholarship Foundation which provides annual scholarship opportunities to help promote individual educational pursuits fostering academic studies and personal development; Philanthropy, by providing donations in support of our nationally recognized projects like the New Smyrna Odyssey Memorial Monument and our “St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine” in St. Augustine, which is an institution of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America that represents the initial development of the Greek Orthodox Church in America by our first settlers; Civic Responsibility, by way of our own local longstanding success with the AHEPA 410 APARTMENT HOUSE in Daytona Beach, Florida, which provides affordable housing to our local senior citizens in need; and lastly Family & Individual Excellence, through our AHEPA Family organizations of “The AHEPA NEW SMYRNA Daughters of Penelope, The Sons of Pericles & The Maids of Athena”, that each in their MEMORIAL COMMITTEE own way, help promote the progressive development and emergence of well-rounded Tom Stratis, President Greek-American citizens, whose core family values of hard-work, respect and spiritual Pete Klonaris, V President awareness provide the basic support of their foundation and well-being. We cannot thank everyone enough for their past support and the commitment they demonstrated for the Daytona Beach area AHEPA family as it was terrific to say the very least. The proceeds and donations alike received , thanks to the many great local sponsors that stepped up and gave selflessly, were utilized specifically towards maintaining our treasured monuments as well as awarding annual scholarships to our local deserving young applicants that are looking to make a difference within our local community. As a point of information, our AHEPA chapter awarded over $8,500 in local scholarships this year which we are extremely grateful for as it was only possible through the many donors that we can count on year after year. So, whether it’s by way of your own personal time and financial support donated by attending this great annual event, or simply by having you or your business becoming a recognized sponsor, we sincerely hope to once again achieve our stated mission to maintain our commitment towards our AHEPA Chapter’s worthwhile causes.
