Now that November is here the snow will also be a frequent visitor. Please make sure your children have the
appropriate clothing to be outside for at least 40 mins.
every day. Also attached you will find information on
inclement weather procedure and bussing transportation. In October, Mr. Desjardine who had been teaching grade 4/5 was recalled into a position at Arklan
school. We have now welcomed Ms. Perkins to teach
the class through the remainder of the year. Of prime
importance in November are 3 events: Progress reports will be coming home on Wednesday the 9th and
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held in our gym
starting at 10 am on the 11th. Note the earlier start time
to accommodate our lunch schedule. On Wednesday
the 16th the local ARC committee meeting will be taking place at Perth DCI. This is the board’s review of
school status and programming for the next 5
years. Of particular impact on our school is proposals
discussing the movement of grade 7 & 8’s to SFDCI
and the expansion of French immersion programming
to all local area schools. For more information on the
issues and meeting dates please check out the board’s
website at www.ucdsb.on.ca.

DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
The stormy, cold and windy days of winter
could arrive at any time. Please remind
your child that they need to dress according to the weather conditions in order to
enjoy being outside during recess breaks. Please be
sure to put his/her name on all clothing that comes to
school. Recesses are a time for students to have a
break from class routine. It is expected that students
come prepared to be outside for the duration of recess.
ELEMENTARY PROGRESS REPORTS
SCHOOL CLOTHING
Parents will be provided with an Elementary Progress
Report that will be sent home on November 9th The
purpose of the Progress Report is to show a student’s
development of learning skills and work habits during
the fall of the school year, as well as a student’s general
progress in achievement of curriculum expectations in
the different subject areas.
Within the next few weeks families will be able to order Montague School clothing. These may make good
Christmas presents or just be a way for your child to
show pride in their school. Watch for a separate order
form coming home soon.
Communication between teachers and parents regarding the academic progress of students will be on-going
throughout the year. If you have questions about your
student’s progress at any time during the year, please
contact your child’s teacher directly at the school.
REMEMBERANCE DAY CEREMONY
STUDENT ABSENCES
We will be having a Remembrance Day Assembly on
Friday, November 11th @ 10:00 am. All parents and
guardians are welcome to attend our Assembly.
Thank you for the on-going support by reporting your
child(ren)’s absence to the office by 9 a.m. each morning. We appreciate receiving the reason for the absence as the board office requires that we maintain
detailed attendance records (examples: parent approved, family, funeral, injury, flu or personal), plus
the health unit requires a weekly report of certain illnesses such as chicken pox and flu like symptoms.
HEALTH UNIT MESSAGE
The ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity
for Children and Youth: The report card assesses children’s physical activity in Canada. This year one of the
topics that was assessed was sleep and they found kids
are not getting enough. It is recommended that school
-age children get 9-11 hours of sleep per night. One
way to do this is by spending less time watching
screens, and more time being physically active. Encourage your children to participate in heart-pumping
activities each day, especially outside, as sunlight
helps regulate sleep patterns. Remove screens and media devices from their bedrooms as these can affect
their quantity and quality of sleep. Kids who are tired
out from running around sleep better and those who
have slept well have more energy to run around!
Pause to Play: Are you looking for a way to get your
family to spend less time in front of a screen? You can
try Pause to Play! Challenge your family members to
turn off their screens (TV, video games, computer,
iPod, cell phone, tablet). That time can be spent engaging in physical activity, socializing with family and
friends and discovering new healthy foods.
NORCARD FUNDRAISING
Thank you to everyone who sold and/or purchased
items from our School Council fundraiser.
SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING
Our next School Council meeting will be held on
Wednesday, November 9th at 6 pm. All parents,
guardians and interested members of the community
are welcome to attend. There will be many opportunities to be involved with council throughout the year.
We hope to see you there.
PEANUT SENSITIVE SCHOOL
We would like to remind you that Montague is an allergen aware school. Wow butter, a substance that
tastes and smells like peanut butter is not permitted in
the school. If you have any questions, please contact
your child’s teacher or school administration.
