British Arabian Racing and Endurance Stallions 2013/ 2014 by Paul Simmons 2013 has been another solid year for British bred race horses and endurance horses, and several key British Breeders have seen their horses achieve considerable success in major races. ENDURANCE 2013 The Endurance National Champion for 2013 is Vavavoom (Vadeer x Vahana) owned and ridden by Carri‐Ann Dark, and by AHS Premium stallion Vadeer, who has rapidly become one of leading endurance sires, he is also the sire of Kates Mate who won the 101 km ER at Carnwich (also ridden by Carri‐Ann). Carol Legg has also had a superb season with her homebred gelding French Lieutenant (Dedja Des Forges x Shirea Crystal (Crystal Magician) winning 120 km FEI 2 star at Kings Forest, 3rd in the 120 km FEI 2 Star Windsor ER and 1st in the 81 km ER at Three Rivers, as well as Terminators Dream (Bengali D’Albret x Dantes Dream (Dantist) winning the 80 km FEI 1 star at Barbury Castle and 3rd in the 80 km ER at Cirencester Park. Oakleaze Farm Czarko (Czarus x Nathalya) has so far this season won the 120 km FEI 1 star at Haywood Oaks, 2nd in the 120 km FEI 2 star at Kings Forrest, 1st in the 80km ER at Cirencester Park with Lauren Mills, and Vlacq Diamond Sparkle (Shah Shadow x Huttons Amber Chloe) took the 130 km 2 Day Cirencester Park ride and full sibling Vlacq Bronze Image was 4th in the 120 km 2 star at SERC in Scotland. While the Warrens Hill Arabians bred Warrens Hill Kizmet (Warrens Hill Destiny x Flo Jo) won the YR Championship for owner Alice Loten, Zayin Arabian Stud have also had their most successful season with Zayin Encantado (Karmah X Aliesha) ‐ owned/ridden by Jenny Pierson winning the 100 km ER Gold Achievement race at Cirencester Park (Sakeena Sky Zayin came 2nd with Kumara Zayin 3rd – a rare 123 for any stud in the UK in an ER), Encantado has also come 2nd in the 80 km Boconnoc Bowl and the 80 km Barbury Castle Chase. While Yawl Hill Billy has been 3rd in the 100 km ER at Barbury Castle and Cirencester Park as well as gaining a Grade 1 for his NASTA Performance Test for owner/breeder Kirsty Wiscombe. While Kartoum With A K (Khairo x Dras Lass) bred by the late Cheryl Logan, but owned/ridden by Nikki Malcolm has won the 80 km FEI 1 Star at Kings Forest, 2nd in the 120 km FEI 2 Star at Ermelo (Holland), 1st in the 80 km ER at Cirencester Park and 120 km FEI 2 Star at the College Ride. While Jane Kadri bred mare Sadhira (Simeon Sadir x Sabeha) won the young horse title at Kings Forrest. ARAB RACING 2013 This year’s Arabian Racing season has seen no less than 14 individual UK winners, with Carol Legg and her father Eric’s lovely young colt Man Of Dreams (Nizam x Dantes Dream) landing a hatrick of wins including a Premier Handicap at Newbury, Zayin Arabian Stud have won with both their runners this season, Zayin Shamern (Concord x CS Shamal) hacking up by 10 lengths in his maiden and Zayin Zachilles (Kaolino x CS Comete) winning by 6 lengths on his handicap debut. R Ali Bey has sired numerous show arabian champions and Phoenix Field Arabians 'Maarhabi' was one of them, winning the Eygptian championships as a 3 year old. As a 10 year old he joined the World Start and Potential Endurance Squad and started his FEI career in 2012 achieving 3rd place at Barbury Castle in the FEI 1*. Thirteen generations back on his tail female line he is a descendent of the Abbas Pasha desert mare Ghazieh.
