Focus on the Neolithic (New Stone Age) period from 4000 to 2500 BC to allow for a comparison in Term 4 with life in Ancient Egypt. Death and burial in pre-historic Britain. Examine artefacts dating from the period on display in the Guildhall Museum. What do these finds tell us about who lived here during the period? Case Study: Howard Carter and The Tomb of Tutankhamun Research the story. What artefacts were found in the tomb of the young king? What do they tell us about Royal life in Ancient Egypt? Compare what homes looked like in the 1950’s with the present day. What programmable devices do we have in school (data loggers, cameras, Beebots, Roamers etc.) Understand that to perform a set of tasks any programmable device must have a CPU. Understand that to perform a function any device must be given a set of instructions. Introduce pupils to basic programming using scratch. What is happening in the world of Robotics today? Robots and the work place. Invite a member of staff from the local NHS to talk/show pupils how robotics to support adults and children with disabilities. Computers in education Volcanoes Use atlases, maps and globes to locate where in the world volcanoes are located? Describe what happens when a volcano erupts. What impact can and do volcanoes have on the landscape? What threat are volcanoes to human life? Geography – Select one volcanic area in the world. Compare and contrast the landscape, climate, vegetation and wildlife with that in the UK. History – The story of Pompeii Sequence and re-tell the story. What evidence exists today to confirm the events associated with the volcanic eruption? Earthquakes What is an earthquake? Where in the world do they take place? Why do they occur? What steps are we taking today to minimise the impact of earthquakes around the world? How are homes built differently in earthquake areas? Where around the world do these food come from? Where can we eat these foods? List food outlets locally that sell and serve these foods Invite food staff/members of the local community in to school to talk about, make and share food with pupils (food hygiene.)
