Mechanization
Explanation
Key Vocabulary (4 -7 terms)
Mechanization is the implementation of machines that reduces the
time and effort of a human worker
Machines have made work much easier. The advantage of using
machine is that it is much more efficient, helping workers during the
Industrial Revolution create more products in less amounts of time
compared to their old methods, giving their country more resources
overall.
The downside of machines is that it is more expensive to maintain.
A positive side is that, compared to 18 horses with 6 ploughs
attached to them, a steam engine tractor with 3 double ploughs can
do double the plough work in more than half the duration. This is
called efficiency.
Mechanization: machinery that
assist humans with the physical
requirements of work.
Machine: a tool created to aid a
human’s work using less time
and effort
Implementation: To execute a
new system, tool, etc.
Efficiency: To do a task using
the least amount of time and
effort
Labor: Agricultural work done
without machinery
Tull’s seed drill
Jethro Tull, inventor of the seed drill, a machine that
efficiently distributed seeds around a field.
