Project Guidelines
_____1. Choose a country that you would like to study that is Africa, south of the Sahara desert.
_____2. Create a brochure for your country. The brochure will have 6 sections. 1 section will be your
title page. The other 5 sections will include the 5 themes of geography. (12 points)
1. Title page: Include Location: Absolute (latitude and longitude) location of country capital.
Relative location describes where your country is in relation to the features around it. Title page
could also include your countries flag.
2. Place: Physical features such as landforms, plants, animals, and weather patterns. Human
features such as language, food and population.
3. Human-environment interaction: How the people affect their environment and how the
environment affects the people. Example: dams, homes, clothing, temperature and natural
disasters.
4. Movement: What brought people to this area or what has caused people to leave. Example:
Jobs, food, natural resources, war, drought.
5. Regions: Common characteristics. Example: Land (rainforest, desert, highlands, basins), natural
resources, religion.
6. Fun facts: Could include famous people, sports/games, wars fought, technology, traditions,
music, dance, folktales, transportation, tribes, art and much more.
_____3. Graphing: Create a graph displaying the infant mortality rate in your country along with 4 other
nearby countries and the United States. (5 points)
_____4. Map work: I will provide you with one outline map of your country or you may generate one of
your own. On your map you must include the following information: at least 5 major cities ( one must
be the capital), land use (include a key), label any major rivers, and include at least 3 major resources
found in your country. This must be neatly done. (5 points)
_____5. Compile a bibliography of the sources you have used for this project. Keep track of them on the
back of this paper. Simply list the sources you used. (3 points)

Brochure (per theme):
2 points: Theme is correct and information thoroughly covered with multiple examples.
1 point: Theme is correct, but info is vague and only provides 1 vague example.
0 points: Theme is not correct and information is not accurate or complete.
Total of 12 points
Graph:
5 points: Graph is neatly done, illustrates your country along with 4 surrounding countries and the
United States. All information is accurate. Graph has a title. X and Y axis are properly labeled.
3 points: Sloppy graph, missing or inaccurate information given.
0 points: Very sloppy, none of the information is accurate, or graph is not complete.
Map:
5 points: All requirements are met.
3 points: Only some of the requirements are met, or the map is sloppy.
0 points: Missing some requirements and the map is sloppy.
Bibliography: record your sources as you use them.
