S1 Homework - Glow Blogs

Forfar Academy English Department
Name: ______________________ Class: _______
What’s the purpose of this homework booklet?
1) To let you practise the skills you have learned in class.
2) To help you gain confidence in working by yourself.
3) To allow you to share your creations with others.
Expectations
Each month you will complete TWO tasks from the homework booklet. One of
them must be chosen from Section A and the other from Section B. The tasks in
Section A are more challenging and you will need to spend longer on these.
For some tasks you might need to ask a member of your family for help.
Homework tasks must be completed by the last week of every month. Your
teacher will advise you and you should note down all homework dates in your
school planners.
On your class’s homework day, you will be expected to share your work with a
group of pupils in your class. Your teacher will observe your presentations and
offer feedback.
How will my work be marked?
At the back of this booklet you will find Learning Logs. Each month you will
comment on your own homework and you will also receive feedback from
your teacher, your classmates, or a parent/guardian.
Two Top Tips

Do not turn homework into a chore. You have a month to
do your tasks so do not leave them until the night before
they are due to be handed in.

Make sure your work is neat and check it over for any
spelling or punctuation mistakes before homework day.
All “A” tasks are 250 words minimum unless otherwise stated.
1. Keep a written diary or a blog on Glow for a week. (100 words per day)
2. Choose a character from a novel or play that you have just read.
Prepare their response to the question – “What’s been the most
memorable day of your life so far?”
3. Which famous people do you share your birthday with? Research that
person and produce a poster comparing yourself and the star. Highlight
any similarities or differences between the two of you.

not done your homework.

school when they were young. You should include differences,

about the school building, subjects, teachers, technology etc.

school for the day, then in more detail explain how things would be
different in school for both pupils and staff on that day.

of which you are proud. It could be something like being part of putting on

necessary. This task could also be recorded rather than delivered to your
group as a talk. (2 minutes minimum)
