President’s Corner by Jean-Claude Bernais ([email protected])
Gradually back to our standard at the St. George.
During the past few months we have shared some situations
that, without being catastrophic required patience, and tolerance throughout the renovation and reconstruction periods that
followed.
I refer to the work undertaken in the common areas. You will notice most of our
disappointments are coming to an end. The restrictions and inconveniences
caused by the renovation of the 3rd floor terrace, which aggravated the water
leaks in the gym and the commercial floors below, and some administrative
glitches, are now over.
I wish to thank all the volunteers, too numerous to name them all here, who
help make our life a pleasant experience at the St. George; either by their participation on the Social committee, the maintenance of our library, the organisation of CPR/AED medical responders, the setting-up of our new website, the
editing and publishing of our newsletter and the contribution to the security of
our environment.
Thanks everyone for your patience and enjoy your summer.

A few friendly reminders...
Kindly return the aqua fitness equipment to their location once you are finished using them.
Now that the nice weather is upon us, please help yourselves to the cushions for the chaise longue
on the 3rd floor patio. The cushions are stored in the cabinet inside the pool area. Kindly return
them to the cabinet once you are done.
There are new signs posted in the visitor parking areas which are affixed to a post set in heavy cement blocks. These are meant to remind guests to park within the designated areas (yellow
lines). Please ask your guests not to move these as it can cause injury and deviate from their purpose.
The Management Team at Axia Property Management Inc. would like to wish you and your family a
warm and safe summer season.
BREAKING NEWS
George Street Planters and Waller Mall
by Gordon Diamond
After a safety study we requested was done by the Ottawa Police, the Ottawa City
Public Works has responded with plans to remove the large planters in front of the
St. George. The City will also implement our suggested changes for the Waller Mall,
which includes severe tree trimming, improved lighting, and curb cutting. We will
monitor the results and continue to work with downtown businesses, the Police, and
the City.

Thanks to the Social Committee and the many residents who
attended, the Summer Party was a great success. A variety
of great foods and refreshments was enjoyed by all.
Tahirah Shadforth briefed us on the new St. George web
site www.thestgeorge.net which she had built and the site
went live at the party. We encourage everyone to access
our new communication tool!
Our special guest, Ottawa Police Service Inspector Uday
Jaswal, responsible for the downtown area, spoke with a
number of residents about security.

THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING HAPPENING IN
THE BYWARD MARKET!
THE 15TH AUTO CLASSIC SUNDAY 5 JUNE A BIG PARTY!
Blue skies and warm weather brought some 25,000 people to see 65 classic cars displayed throughout the
ByWard Market on Clarence, William and George streets and in the Clarendon and Tin House Courts. Four
antique fire trucks of the ByTown Fire Brigade plus 2 vintage Ottawa police cars were also on hand. The
cafes and patios were full, a band and buskers played and $450 was raised for Operation Come Home. All in
all a great Summer Sunday in the Market!
2011 NAKED BIKE RIDE A BUST!
Our annual peek-a-boo event was blindsided by a last minute police warning to “cover
up or get arrested”. Our law-abiding activists complied but still dangled a few naughty
bits in protest of human dependency on oil.
The Naked Bike Ride is an annual international event and the only other city to pour
cold water on the fun is San Diego.
Editor’s Note by Irene Diamond
We bid farewell to our Editor, Paulette Hendry who, with her husband, Paul, will be spending the next three years in Europe. We wish them fair winds and a following sea. I will be continuing as Editor for the next while.
