Hampton Court Palace
THIS WEEK
On Tuesday Year 4
went to Hampton
Court Palace. On the
way in we saw a lady
dressed in a French
gown. Her name was
Anne Boleyn. She
told us about Tudor
times. Next we went
to another room and
the ceiling was made
of real gold. We found out that one of Henry VIII’s wives did
give him a son so the ceiling was just for her.
The people who worked for Henry got two roast dinners
every day. Also they got clothes and somewhere to sleep.
In the kitchen we saw a pot which could cook six hundred
people’s meals! We went to see a Tudor fridge that ran with
no electricity. Then we saw the garden and it was gigantic.

Netball Tournament
Last Friday, a group of children from Year 6 participated in a
netball competition at Vauxhall Primary School. The team
played four matches against other primary schools from
South London, and won the last one, with Alfie from 6H
scoring the goal for our team.
Referees from a neighbouring secondary school were
impressed by the behaviour of our team and in particular
with Dolapo from 6M.
Dolapo not only played
great netball but also
showed excellent
sportsmanship skills.
Three cheers for our Year 6
team: Rachel, Darcy,
Dolapo, Alfie, Gabriel,
Megan, Tj and Zanika.

eighteen minutes, a child is killed or injured on UK roads. The
theme for Road Safety Week this year is the safety of
children on foot and bicycles. Clapham Manor children have
been challenged to create an eye catching poster or write a
rhythmic poem or song to help children think about how to
keep safe as they travel.
Club Dates
Please note that after school clubs in the Spring Term will run
from Thursday 10th January—Wednesday 20th March
(and not as stated on the letter sent out last week). There
will therefore be nine sessions for each club, and prices
reflect this.
Family Learning Coffee Morning
Take a break from Christmas shopping, escape the wintry
weather and join other parents and carers for a mug of
steaming hot coffee! From 9.00—11.00am on Thursday
29th November our Family Champions (Tracie Wallis,
Natalie Power, Mandy Delaney and Anna Campbell) would
like to welcome you to a fun session which will also give you
an opportunity to learn animation techniques. The coffee
morning will be in the main school building and you can bring
toddlers with you.
Dress Code
Thank you for working with us to ensure your children follow
the school dress code. We are pleased to note that children
are dressed in the correct colours (navy and white) and are
wearing sensible black shoes (no trainers or boots and no
patent material). We are also pleased to note that parents/
carers have removed their children’s hair extensions during
term time. Beads and other hair decorations are in school
colours as well as being kept to a minimum (small, and no
more than ten in number). It has helped all of our children
to feel an equal part of the school community.
Winter Fair
Friends of Clapham Manor will be holding a Winter Fair on
Thursday 6th December. Please bring in good quality
pre-owned books and toys to sell on the stalls, or prizes for
the chocolate tombola. You could also help Friends by asking
any business contacts for goods or vouchers which could
become prizes in the end-of-year raffle. Thank you!
Last week our star classes were
4A and 5S with 99.0%
attendance. The rate in school as
a whole was 94.9%.
