Meeting with Reverend Kenneth Priddy
Friday, February 3, 2017
Saturday, February 4, 2017
Sunday, February 5, 2017
Please mark your calendars for February 3rd, 4th and 5th for
a series of meetings and planning sessions with Reverend
Kenneth Priddy. The intent of these meetings is to discuss, plan,
and develop a go-forward strategy for Centre Church. The Session
has approved this 3-day meeting with Reverend Priddy which will
also include the Diaconate and other interested congregational
members. ALL congregational members are welcome and
encouraged to attend - the $20 fee (for materials) will be paid for
out of the Church's budget
Additional details will be forwarded to you over the next several
weeks, however, I am sending this early communication so that
everyone will have time to mark their calendar. This is an extremely
important time and I encourage everyone to make themselves
available. We will start Friday evening February 3rd and conclude
with our scheduled services on Sunday February 5th. Saturday
sessions/meetings will be scheduled on Centre's campus.
Look for bulletin inserts in the coming weeks.
Thanks,
Rick Sorenson
Clerk of Session

Happy New Year to you! When it comes to celebrating a New Year how will you usher it
in? Every celebration will have its own flavor but there is certain common theme that is
common to all. What is the motto? “Out with the old and in with the new!”
I don’t know if its true but I’ve read that in some towns in Italy you have to watch out for
falling objects, as people shove their old sofas, chairs and even refrigerators out of their
windows on New Year's Eve.
In Ecuador, people make dummies, stuffed with straw, to represent the events of the past
year. These "ano viejo" effigies are burned at midnight, thus symbolically getting rid of the
past.
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, more than a million people gather on the beaches on December
31st to honor Yemanja, the Yoruban "Mother of the Sea," who brings good fortune. Even
the color of underwear Brazilians wear on the first day of the New Year has meaning.
Pink brings love, yellow, prosperity; and white, peace and happiness.
Finally, an American custom is that spending the night with the one you love and kissing
them at midnight insures that the relationship will flourish during the coming year.
Regardless of where you live in this world, a chance to start over is always a welcome
idea. It’s appealing to think we can change a direction in life, a habit too distracting to living or a thorough cleaning out of the negative barriers we might face. The truth is it is
never too late to start anew. Even Jesus told Nicodemus, “You must be born
anew!” (John 3).
The first step in starting anew is doing it wisely. How do you determine what to clean out
and what to invite into you life? You only want to bring new things in to insure abundance
in the coming year. One important key to moving forward is if you must carry something
out, be sure to bring something else in first. Changing a habit is far easier when you replace it with something. If you want to know God’s word better start today by spending
10 minutes reading a section (a paragraph, or a chapter) and write in a journal a short
summary of what learn about God (who he is, what he likes, what he does for us). Want
to sense God’s presence in you life? Schedule your Sunday mornings as a time for worship and fellowship with others who can pray with you.
Remember that a habit is formed one day at a time. You can start anew today!
