Vigilant Knight Knights of Columbus The Official Publication of Cardinal Gibbons Council No. 2521 Instituted February 8, 1924 4301 Klosterman Avenue, Fullerton, Maryland 21236 Home of Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori and Maryland State Deputy Stephen M. Cohen “Brothers helping Brothers” Editor & Chancellor Joseph Macaluso Jr. 443-750-0720 [email protected] www.cardinalgibbons2521.com June 2017 Columbus Gardens Volume 61, Number 18 410-256-2737 CHAPLAIN REPORT In some ways June is the end of the year: the end of the school year, the end of the Knights’ fraternal year, and, for some, the end of the fiscal year. But every end also means a new beginning. It is good to savor and celebrate the end of many things, and to give thanks for what has been accomplished. Then, it is time to turn the page, and to begin the new chapter. This year, June 4th is Pentecost Sunday, a feast which is often called the birthday of the Church. That reference, of course, comes from the fact that when the Apostles, through the power of the Holy Spirit, had the conviction that Jesus is Lord, risen from the dead, they began to boldly preach the Good News, and to make disciples. The Church was born on Pentecost, and then continues to grow, and to share the message of Jesus in every season. Let us, Knights and Ladies, ask the Holy Spirit to give us the courage to continue to witness to our faith, from one fraternal year to the next, so we can do our part to build the Kingdom. Filled with the Holy Spirit, we will support one another, recruit new members, and reach out in charity and service. Vivat Jesus! Fr. Donald Grzymski [email protected] INSTALLATION OF CARDINAL GIBBONS OFFICERS 2017-2018 The Installation of officers will be held on Sunday July 9th. It will begin with mass at 11:30 A.M. at St. Michael's church and the installation will follow after mass, after which the Ladies of the Knights Officers Installation will be held. A reception will be held at the Council home after the installation. All members of Cardinal Gibbons Council and their wives are invited to attend. GRAND KNIGHT REPORT Brothers, well this is it, my last report of the year. I think everything went well. I want to thank those that helped with the Hospitality Room at this Year’s Convention, it went great! Everyone pitched in and did a great job! Again, the council and the ladies won several awards. It is always good to hear your name called for an award. Makes you feel the hard work paid off. I want to thank all of the Chair Officers and their wives for all of the work done this past year; David & Donna Bellistri, Joe Macaluso, Jr, PGK, and John and Edna Kurre. I want to thank everyone who chaired an event. A special thanks to Danny Mcfadden for the effort that he put in doing the children’s parties, St. Patrick’s Day Dance and the Shrimp Feast. Thanks to anyone else who helped this past year in any way, your support is always appreciated. Last but not least, I want to thank my Family and my Wife, Darlene, for their help. At times this has seemed like a long year, but I learned a lot and had an enjoyable time doing the work. I pledge my support to all of the officers who will be serving next year. Fraternally, Curt Phillips, PGK District Deputy #1 Cell : (410) 624-8559 INSURANCE The value of life insurance for children As a father, you worry about your children and do many things to protect them. We try to raise them right and make sure they are prepared to become adults. But have you ever thought about buying life insurance on your child? When you insure a child, you are protecting his or her future. Did you know that one out of every six adults get rated, postponed, or denied for insurance coverage? If you purchase a policy for your child from the Knights of Columbus, it guarantees that more insurance can be purchased for that child without proving insurability. Unfortunately, as fathers we don’t have a crystal ball to tell us the future of our children. Your child could eventually have a rare disease, cancer, or be overweight. Did you know you can purchase a child’s policy, in many cases, for less than $10 a month? I’ve heard it said that people don’t want to “profit” from the death of a child, so they won’t purchase coverage on their children. God forbid something tragic happens, those funds can come in handy at a time when finances will be the last thing on a parent’s mind. I have never heard a story about someone who regretting buying coverage on a child. Contact me today to discuss the many policy options for child plans, including 10- and 20- Pay life insurance. 8 9 June 2017 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu 1 4 11 5 6 7 Bingo needs Retirees workers at 630p Meet 12noon Board of Governors 12 14 13 8 19 20 Bingo needs Retirees workers at 630p Meet 12 noon 2 3 Investment Club 8p-12A Sportsman Raffle 9 10 7:30pm 15 21 16 26 Bingo needs workers at 630p 27 22 Officers Meeting 7:30pm 23 George Elardo on organ Name 28 29 Awards Open Meeting 7:30pm 10 17 Lounge Open at 730p That Tune 25 Sat Lounge Open Bingo needs Keough 4th 1st Degree workers at 630p Degree 7:00pm Admissions 8p 18 Fri 30 Lounge open at 730p 24 July 2017 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat 1 2 3 4 5 Bingo needs Retirees meet Board of Lounge open Governors 7:30pm help at 6:30pm at Noon 6 7 8 7:30pm 9 10 Officer Install Bingo needs Keough 4th Council help at 6:30pm Degree 7:00pm Meeting 8:00pm St. Michaels 1130am 16 23 11 12 13 7:30pm 18 19 Bingo needs Retirees meet Officers Lounge open help at 6:30pm at Noon Meeting 7:30pm 7:30pm 24 26 25 30 31 Fifth Sunday Bingo needs help at 6:30pm 20 27 21 28 Lounge open 7:30pm 11 15 Lounge open 17 Bingo needs help at 6:30pm Mass 14 22 29
